It's been like 1 hour and all capitec services are down. Card swipes, atm cash withdrawals and services inside the bank....

People stuck at PnP in the queue the cards are just declining.

Capitec Bank offline? (18-12-2016)

Was in Menlyn at around 11:00 this morning, went to PnP to buy some bread and other groceries.

The till declined my card, tried again, declined again. Tried a hand-held POS, it also declined.

At this stage I went upwards to Checkers, also got declined twice.

On my way to Capitec I stopped at an Absa ATM, same issue.

Capitec could do nothing as it was a communications issue (or something like that).

Luckily I found R10 so I could escape madhouse Menlyn. But a lot of other people weren't that fortunate.

Anybody also affected by this issue of theirs?

Imagine you took your family to some $restaurant, and you can't pay the bill... :o even though you have more than enough money in your account.

Will definitely look at a second bank (FNB or so) as a standby...

Their 0860 10 20 43 number doesn't work ("the requested number is not available" from telkom mobile network), cable thieves most probably.

Not with their main number offline... think it's a big issue this time.

At least the car's got enough fuel for tomorrow... after that it'll be quite interesting :D

Will make a stop at the ATM later just to see, Gotta pay the domestic tomorrow also, eish

I saw a lad ring up R800 groceries and they packed it but she could not pay because the card was declining....

That is hectic but the worst part would be if you filled up with fuel and can't pay because your card is down..... What do you do?

/notes all those capitec customers who gloated at fnb customers during the last outage feeling a bit sheepish.

Lol. FNB has been off about 5 times this year since I got my credit card, so not sure one outage in 6 years since I have been with them exactly gives FNB anything to gloat about. ;)
