Capitec - Stolen Money

So my girlfriend and her mom both had money taken off their accounting for no reason, so they went to Capitec, at Capitec they met a bunch of other people who also had money taken off for no reason.

A bit embarrassing for me seeing as I recommended Capitec to both of them and have a Capitec account myself.

Anyone else experiencing this?

Capitec is currently under investigation for the past few months for fraud.

My gf had R240 taken off, her mom R500, and 12 - 15 others at the bank at the time ranges in the thousands.

I don't have all the details as I just heard of it now, Capitec is saying there is nothing they can do about it now...

I had nothing taken off as my main account I keep close to empty and have my money in my pockets.

I wanted to open an account at Capitec, but this leaves a bad taste if true

Did they get sms notifications when the money was taken?

I recommended Capitec because I use them, don't blame us when for recommending something you haven't even tried :p

I did try, they wouldn't accept my ID book I've been using for 16 years... apparently they have an issue with the photo being slightly over the border line - they also didn't get back to me when I called the call centre about this.

Needless to say, now with people's money going AWOL - I'm glad my ID wasn't good enough :D

Hopefully they sort it out very quickly.

It seems it was transaction somewhere around 16 December that are repeating. My gf had 1 amount taken off until her main account was empty and her mom 3 amounts until hers was empty.

They're blaming it on some sort of glitch but so far have no idea of when it will be sorted out.

Weird, my ID photo is completely at a different angle to the border. Only one corner actually sits within the border.
