I was with united bank which became ABSA and honestly though all banks where as bad as ABSA. It was only when I started working that I finally got sick of ABSA's BS and the many chances I had given them and I switched. Been with two banks since and both where significantly better than ABSA. Its the one bank I will never return to barring a major overhaul. Their branches are always the busiest and their service the poorest.

It's like they recruit their staff from the bottom of the barrel.

They must, their bankers don't even know how basic products work, such as credit cards.

I've almost completed my over R15,000 move just not to deal with their incompetence anymore.

ABSA is feeling threatened by Capitec so sabotaged them to make them appear incompetent!
You can take off that hat. It wouldn't surprise me one bit of ABSA.

However how about something in the Statement reflecting the fact an amount was not processed? If it is reserved and then later unreserved surely it cannot be to difficult for that to reflect as a line item?

Capitec is supposed to be simple and transparent, just looking at the Facebook page you can clearly see it is an issue for a lot of people.
I believe the problem could be with their internet system. It shows payments but not any money received. I think their SMS system works like that as well. I always said this could be a problem and they should fix it. Would only take a few minutes to do. The lack of an API has also been a problem hence why you don't see large retailers use them.

Just to add to this thread...

Last night I got an sms stating I had just withdrawn R498.39 from somewhere in Philadelphia.
But I was sitting in Cape Town, with my card in my pocket!

Immediately phoned customer care to find out if it was false notification, it wasn't.
Canceled card & went to my branch today.
They seem to think my card was cloned, as they had a client with a Philadelphia withdrawal a few days ago.

So here I sit with a new card at a cost of R35, and have to wait anywhere up to 30 days & hopefully get my money back.

Thing is, I have the newer "chip" card, and they think it was cloned & my pin number recorded.
This was one of the main reasons I changed to the "chip" card!

Rant over, will keep you posted.

Yes, R70.00 in total.
R35 card replacement + R35 International withdrawal fee.

I'm very happy I must say.

I have a friend who lost 10k in one of those ABSA/MTN stories, and only got 3k back!

Did they also give you back the R35 you had to pay for a new card?

Hopefully that counts for the card fee as well.

IF not you must query it as the cant hold you liable for this. I used to be an enquiries clerk for Absa and it was standard policy that if you card was stolen you are not allowed to be charged for the new card.

Not sure if this counts for Capitec as well.

My card was cloned, so I was still in possession of the card.

I agree that I shouldn't have had to pay, as the new card was needed so it would have a different number & chip etc.
