Please share how you manage that? I've even asked the store manager to "keep" X amount for me (I call upfront) and the most they ever do hold is about R6000With FNB the ATM Limit is R8000 at an ATM.
A few days ago I withdrew R25000 via Cash@tills.
I think the more important question is why you would withdraw R25k :wtf:
Ja but the printing can fade over time. Fnb card is embossed.
I like that the Capitec card shows the account number though.
If you use a card so much that it fades over time then surely you'll have enough money for a new one every once in a while when it fades?
I'm on my second Capitec card, had the first for over 5 years without any fading.
Same here.I've found that the silver on embossed cards wears out much faster than the printing on other cards.
Embossed cards are a pre-internet holdover, difficult to read in bad lighting after the silver had easily faded off, no benefit beyond allowing offline card present transactions and how often is that needed?
Car rental companies still use this method.
Embossed cards are actually a fraud risk too, any sales clerk who wants to steal your card details can merely rub a thermal paper receipt over it to have a copy of the number, expiry date and your name.Embossed cards are a pre-internet holdover, difficult to read in bad lighting after the silver had easily faded off, no benefit beyond allowing offline card present transactions and how often is that needed?
Quicker to just whip out a phone and take a picture of the card, in which case you're fscked no matter what card type you have. It takes longer and is much more noticeable to take out thermal paper and start rubbing.Embossed cards are actually a fraud risk too, any sales clerk who wants to steal your card details can merely rub a thermal paper receipt over it to have a copy of the number, expiry date and your name.
Embossed is meant to be a thing of the past.
It works online, after having it activated....Which is why it has the pitfalls of not working online or internationally out of the box and is in fact less secure.
Capitec works with eFiling transactions, they are not part of the DHA partnership though ans as far as I know, you can't pay Home Affairs with the Capitec accountI couldn't pay Home Affairs online for my smart card appointment with my Capitec account or my FNB Credit Card, so I opened a FNB Easy account online and a few seconds later I could pay them by authorizing the transaction on the efiling section (which Capitec don't have) of the Easy account
The printing is quite good, however, the lack of embossing is sometimes problematic if a place needs a card imprint, e.g. car rental. (That might have changed)Ja but the printing can fade over time. Fnb card is embossed.
Capitec now have a credit card, that is not embossed either. (See here)Less secure as relates to the card standard. Basically anyone can print one and the card itself is of a lower VISA/MasterCard standard missing some features for having been printed there and then.
Possibly also why they don’t have a credit card function as those have to be done off site.
<snip>
Which could be why the perception is that Capitec has less security drama as it doesn’t work online by default and therefore isn’t open to that point of assault.
HOA?Yeah for the fingerprint authentication. I don't mind going in every few years we have 4 branches here anyway and I don't need to wait a month for my card to be delivered. Capitec don't support the whole HOA at the branch thing so that's probably why it failed. I understand their reasoning and just paid mine at the HOA.
Home affairsHOA?
On that, I'm not the biggest fan of how Capitec handles online banking auth now, with the same PIN for the app and as auth on the website.I prefer security over convenience. That's why I have 2FA enabled aswell.
There is an SMS-based process to change phones with Capitec though, which might make SIM swap (or much worse, SS7) fraud work on Capitec... (I have seen it refused as well though (requiring branch visit to activate on new phone), so there might be more checks...)Capitec: finger print authentication, photo of you on their screen in branch and OTP not linked to your SIM number (if your app in offline) FNB: OTP linked to your SIM number (if your app in offline)
Not embossed, printed in branch... (Some other banks also seem to be doing it, Standard bank have been mentioned)But surely the CC is embossed and not printed in branch?
Most of those, not directly... App does have a cool budget feature and the ability to apply for a (personal) loan. (Capitec doesn't do home loans directly, via SA Homeloans partnership, also no car loans...)There's a few more on FNB that you may have missed. From the app you can buy prepaid electricity, various vouchers, renew your car licence, pay traffic fines, open new types of accounts, take out various insurance policies, apply for car and home finance, view details of your basic nett wealth etc. There's basically very little reason to visit a branch.
I'm not sure which ones Capitec does/doesn't have...
ABSA has CashSend..And don't forget the best feature on the FNB App: Cardless Cash Withdrawals.
Not sure if any other bank offers it but really great not having to insert a card into an ATM.
Ah, I tend to be on DHA (Department of Home Affairs, matches their dha.gov.za (secondary) domain name) for that. Yep, no Capitec support for that. I use my ABSA account that I still begrudgingly have for that...Home affairs
Think I used my free VMCC when I got my smart ID and passport. Should work.Ah, I tend to be on DHA (Department of Home Affairs, matches their dha.gov.za (secondary) domain name) for that. Yep, no Capitec support for that. I use my ABSA account that I still begrudgingly have for that...
(I think Homeowner's Association when I see HOA)
