capped and hating it

noooooo nooooooo nooooooo

they never ever ever guaranteed, thats rule one of having an ISP, currently the only guaranteed connection you get in SA is a diginet. WBS always stood by the phrase 'up to', 'up to 1mbit' and 'up to 64k' when capped, I watched them close on that front.

I don;t think contention comes into play because even 300 users on 1 tower downloading at the same time (which doesn't happen) only gives you 18mbit which leaves another 6 mbit the tower can handle. I think its quality of signal and general network health, like if UUNET goes down or something don't expect your 64k

nah, look you all should be getting your 64k all the time, theres not much standing between you and 64k, you dont need a fast server and you don't need a good signal or good tower (so if you don't get 64k blame does fall squarly on wbs) however they won't guarantee the 64k because thier nazi bandwitdth manager doesn't like to see people happy and likes to really smack you in the balls on a cold winter morning and also because its wireless and the only guarantee you get with wireless is that it will fluctuate :p

Well said :)

I wonder what our British friend will say now! Probably come in here and laugh at us in which case I shall retaliate!

Get your UTD & USB cable & notebook & a ciggy-adapter something to power your UTD & hop in your car, try Olivedale-BS, Northcliff-BS, Roodepoort-BS - I had problems with all those yesterday - still having problems with Olivedale-BS today...my best guess is contention - either at the base-stations or otherwise something fishier than I thought with the WBS shaping & bandwidth mismanagement non-system...fact is I cannot say 100%, but when you experience it yourself with good quality signal (low FER%) you will know that it is virtually unusable...@ Kei - also hop in your car & try using Olivedale-BS - perhaps you will reveal something we don't know yet...

For Olivedale BS I will need to bring my UTD in to work. I do not own a notebook PC so I am not able to test on the road. I do however work close to Olivedale BS (about 1.1km away)
