Our wireless costs are already competitive with the rest of the world, but competition is actively making it even cheaper.:cool:

And Neotel doesnt have exclusive access to the cable. They are part of a company from india who partly own the cable. The cable will resell to all companies at equal cost. Neotel might get discount because of their partnership.
Telkom had exclusive rights to SAT3, up until a while ago. Hence MONOPOLY!
Where do you think Neotel is getting their bandwidth from while waiting for SEACOM?

The SEACOM and Neotel agreement requires complete open access for all carriers to co-locate their equipment directly on the cable. SEACOM and Neotel are also in an agreement to provide a backhaul solution to Johannesburg to remove the backhaul bottleneck and permit customers to access the cable directly in a Point of Presence in South Africa’s major business centre.

Neotel says that they support NEPAD’s principles with regard to the deployment of submarine and terrestrial fibre systems in East and Southern Africa. Neotel has announced its participation in the EASSy submarine cable system project, and has been pursuing the process leading on to the termination of Telkom’s exclusivity on the cable capacity of SAT-3/SAFE for South Africa.

Local hosting could be a lot cheaper than it is. Take for example the fact that leased line prices have fallen dramatically the past 4 years but prices somehow stay high.

serve.co.za = local hosting company. unlimited MySQL dB's unlimited e-mail addies, and other lekker goodies running on cPanel, all for only R27/month. But as far as I am aware, the servers are still located off-shore ... so we are getting closer to cheaper local hosting, even if the local hosting companies still farm servers offshore.
 
Costs coming down? Not everybody's!

hehe... everybody's saying data costs are due to come down soon, due to various factors.
Our leased line & internet contract with Mweb is now due for renewal.
The sales dude tells me its best to re-signup now for another 12month contract, coz their costs (the telkom leased line and the MWEB INTERNET portion) are due to go up by about 10% from January.
So.... is only MWeb's costs going up? why this sounds to me like just a nudge-nudge to re-signup quickly???? hmmmmm :confused:

The cap won't rise dramatically or the price fall dramatically the moment he undersea cable lands in June next year, but the rise in cap will begin then, and the fall in cost for additional usage will already have started before then.
We will see the real impact over a three- to four-year period. Bear in mind that a 25% price reduction per year means a cumulative drop of around 70% over four years.

Eh. IBIWISI. And whoopty freaking do. A whole 30 gigs?? WOW! I have NEVER used so much bandwidth before, I wouldn't know what to do with all of it! /sarcasm off

Seriously though. Give us 4 meg lines with 300 gig caps at R299 a month. Then we will be happy. And make port shaping illegal.
