so my one car has a dead battery (dead cell), called the stealership - R2800 - R3400, oi vey.

would a normal battery supplier - about R2200 (or so)

what is it that makes car batteries so expensive ?

but question is - on a car that is like an electronics factory, would it be best to let the stealership sort this out (motorplan - or what ever it is called does not cover batteries & tyres) ?

My battery was covered under maintenance plan. So must be service plan then. I am sure you will be fine if you go to a battery specialist and buy one from them. Should be a lot cheaper too. What car etc?

Make sure it's the same size, and maintenance free type. Whether it is labelled made by VW or made by sabat, willard, etc makes little difference. It will probably die in 2 years again anyway. The power supplied is also the same if it's the same size.

sounds like a German luxury car with a deep cycle battery, however get the same size and capacity battery from a battery place, will cost a lot less than from the stealership

2 years you say? we talking about new batteries, not stolen ones.

Around R1000, if you have a old battery to hand in. More if you don't

Look at the battery it has a 'size' on it 612, 615, 619, 628 etc with possibly some letters after the number.

Post that info here. Make & model of car will also help.

Yoh, dunno where you get your batteries from but mine lasts about 5 years or so :)

Yes, I've replaced willard sealed maintenance free batteries every 2 years (twice now) since the Ford one died after 3 years.
Diesel cars have bigger than average batteries which may explain it somehow. The car stays in the garage so the cold can't be the problem either.

Yah, same here. Although I swear by Willard batteries. Won't put anything else in my car if I can help it.

Grantza, you're being butt*****ed and not in a good way. I paid R850 for my Corsa Lite battery the other day. While it is a small battery, I cannot see how any battery can really cost above R1500.

sorry - been out
battery is for a range rover (sport sc - petrol) - not sure of battery model - will have a look later

In on subtle brag thread.

You're comparing the battery from a Corsa Lite to one in a Range Rover Sport. The RRS battery probably weighs more than your Corsa.

I saw the other day a company that sells the same Korean battery that tiger wheels is selling, only cheaper. The sales lady said she don't know how good they are, but they are fully guarantee.

I know some Citroen makes got a dent in the battery , so you cannot use any other brand.

Ask Numsa why the batteries is so expensive, and the BEE deals.

right, it would appear the problem is more than just battery.

voltage this morning was 11.2v
voltage now is 10.6v

something is sucking power
