right, it would appear the problem is more than just battery.

voltage this morning was 11.2v
voltage now is 10.6v

something is sucking power
When it's dead, it doesn't hold charge properly, you just wasting time charging it everyday now.

If the battery is new the maybe the alternator is shot?

Might be the alternator, had the same issue about three month ago, similar car. LR dealership qouted arnd 10k for replacement alternator, get it checked out. I ended up getting an alternator from a place in Brackenfell, which was recommended from across the country on LR blogs, and had it put in by a private LR/RR specialist, full price in region of R2200. Hopefully it is not, but if it is the alternator then let me know and i will give you the details.

There's that website Errol's Tyres that also does batteries.

There you'll get the "real" price. Then phone your closest spares shop. (I use Goodhope Spares in Cape Town).

If you hand in the old battery it's significantly cheaper.

Don't think that a battery specialist like Battery Centre will be any good, wanted to charge me almost double what I eventually paid and all three branches had different high prices.

lord, people ask what battery & for what car - what must i say, mazda ?

anyhow, reason i specified petrol sc is that the battery in the petrol version apparently is vastly different to the diesel

No, bold and underline Range Rover Sport part so that it's not a subtle brag, and then feast on my tears of jealousy. :(

Maybe read?

I've just re-read your post twice, it's still as stupid as it was the first time. What you said was equivalent to "I cannot see how any tyre can cost more than R1,500." when all you have for reference is the tiny 14 inch ice skates a Corsa uses.

I was being quoted close to R1500 for an E92 battery (not by dealership). You should not pay much more than that... Where are you based?

Here, let me help you.

1 - Pull down pants
2 - Grab protruding part of stick
3 - Tug gently so you don't tear your anus
4 - Now the stick is out of your bum

Best battery I had was a Willard in my Mazda Midge, lasted me 8 years and probably still going as I sold it with same battery I bought it with, given I took good care of it, topped it up with battery water regularly etc.

I prefer the batteries that needs a bit of maintenance than the one that's sealed (maintenance free) as they just last longer in my experience.. my Getz battery lasted only 2 years so replaced with Spirex and going strong..

Cute, speaking from plenty of experience I assume.

Common problem in the rr/discos. fortunately you dont have to be raped by the stealers. If you are that far gone you will probable have to replace the alternator+battery.

stealership it was

so it turns out a wire related to the tow hitch had frayed & was shorting / arcing causing the drain on the battery.
a wiring loom of sorts was replaced & a new battery fitted.

all is well again (for now)
