Car buying tips for 2016 in SA

With the arrival of 2016, many car buyers will be looking to have a car registered in the new year, having delayed the decision from the last month of 2015.
 
Would help if the "tips" were numbered and broken into sections in the article and not lost in the wall text.
 
My tips:

1. avoid any car with a e-Tag already fitted
2. avoid any car with integrated Google/Android/Apple or similar "Cloud" technology
3. avoid any car with a GPS that phones home
4. avoid any car with features that look forward to "future road infrastructure initiatives"
5. avoid any self-driving car (ie. prison shuttles)
 
Got my new car last week , it will be registered next week . :o
6 year service and motor plan comes with the car , so only tires and fuel to pay for 6 years . :love:

And MASSIVE interest payments.
 
Not to mention that the cost of the service plan is built into the sale price as well, nothing is free ;)
 
Still a great thought that you're safe for 6 years against just about anything ; piece of mind !
 
Honda will be discounting 2015 models from the end of Feb. If you can get a demo model for that price, you are saving 27.5%. Motorplan is optional but there is a 3 year warranty
 
I think it's best to wait 2016 out to see what happens with elections, downgrading, exchange rate etc before doing anything. Well that's just me.

If you buy a car, you know you're losing money, so if that's the way you see a car, then you probably have a bicycle?

If someone wants to buy a Merc or BMW or whatever they want, let them. No one buys a car as an investment.
 
On Topic:

Buy what you want and can afford. Don't fall for people saying this and that about a brand. As long as it isn't one of those cheap brands, you can't really go wrong.

Buy what you want and what you will want to be driving around in for a few years.

Put as much money in to car accounts. Interest is only going to go up. Will probably also wait before getting a new car this year.
 
That's not entirely true though, the car might be fine but there's definitely a difference in levels of service. Peugeot are typically useless and if a weird part goes wrong with your 3-4 year old car, they usually say they need to get a jeweller in France to hand build the part out of Tanzanite or something, so it'll be 6 months and a billion rands. VW are not like that.
