Car Door Lock Broken (Actuator)

I haven't had time to take the lock and actuator out yet as I don't have the right tools. Need a star shape screw driver, probably something like this:

I don't think it is a relay (thanks for the info @PhireSide ) because the other doors are fine. I can also hear something is trying to move inside the door (receiving signal) but the lock is just jammed and doesn't budge.

So now I need to find the right tools.
It's called a torx set.

Go to your nearest cash crusaders, they should have a screwdriver set for about a R100. Will have a few torx bits in there.

So I found some tools 'hidden' in my garage.

This is the thing (actuator) Hyundai want to ask R1200 for, excluding Vat?

When give it power it sounds and feels like the motor wants to move, but something is obviously stuck.

I have no idea how to open this thing. It looks like there might be a teeny tiny little screw to the right, but I ain't got no screw driver that small....

probably a broken spring inside jamming it, i would need to see it in person to see how to open it, but imo go to a scrap yard and get one off a wreck

Okay, I just used some force to open it. Hammered the screwdriver into edge and carefully forced it open.

This is why it gets stuck. One of the teeth is broken. Will have to go see a mechanical dentist? :crying:

imo easiest is to go get one at a scrap yard, otherwise you would likely macgyver a fix or alternatively get someone to 3d print a part for you, imo macgyvering a fix doesnt set you back anything, worst case it breaks off again? super glue that back :p

imo more than one tooth would make contact at a time, did you try operating it over that point manually?

edit: i sadly have an issue whereby the locking relay on my car is dead, the central locking unlocks but doesnt lock, to find someone willing to do a board level repair is near impossible it seems :(

I have a 3D printer, but there is too much force on that part and to fine. I can try with a 0.1 nozzel, but the metal gear will damage the plastic?

it shouldn't if the part moves freely? imo why did it break in the first place, you might have 2 issues here.

Maybe. Maybe it is just because of age. If I position it carefully it will stop right before it get to the broken tooth and then does the reverse action to open again.

Flippen love it. @ArtyLoop tried to help me fix my washing machine but I never managed to get it to work. But it is really great to try, specially I don't have any mechanical or electrical knowledge so nice to explore and learn new things.
