Car Door Lock Broken (Actuator)

Had a Hyundai from that period, the door handles were made from s***, they all broke off.

THe door handles are very well made on this one. In fact, most of the parts are very well made. When I take it apart everything looks like good quality. The problem is just that little gear that broke off somehow. Now my Citi Golf I had before this one..... now that was a piece of rubbish.

If you want to try fixing it yourself maybe try the 3d printing thread, though that looks tiny, might be too small resolution for 3d printing.

Yap. I have a 3D printer. It can maybe work, but it will take so much time and a couple of prints to get the model right. It is not just gears that need to be printed but the whole gear and its profile. The bottom side will also be difficult to print as it will need to have support for the print and will effect the smoothness when it moves.

I've never managed to print gears that don't get stuck together.

The gears are also pretty solid in the actuator. That little motor puts a lot of pressure on those gears. There are also two little rubbers each side of the gear thingy to help break the impact. ABS filament is strong, but don't think it will be strong enough, specially something that small.

I'd rather use PLA, works better for mechanical parts, but yeah... the force applied would probably be too much.
Maybe take it to an engineering place, they might be able to mill it for you out of metal?

Nah! That is over the top. I can just buy an aftermarket one probably.

Lol! The little tooth broke off again. This time I added in a little tape to make the gear-stop, stop a bit sooner. Not sure how long it will last.

dammit :(

i would start to work on a #d printed part, or else go old school, push that gear into some putty or clay, bake it and then melt plastic or pour some epoxy or something into the mould and bingo no layers to worry about - this will be harder than i make it sound for sure but you get the point.

 I'll see what it will cost aftermarket. Then decide if the rest is worth my time.

So after fixing it a couple of times the actuator kept on braking.

I just bought a new one from kmotors.co.za for R700 and sent Courier Guy to fetch it for R100. Fetched on Friday, delivered today. Google Maps Location: Click here.

Looks like original Hyundai part, quality exactly the same as the original one that is broken.

At least now I can take my door and lock system apart in less than 60 seconds.

So this has now happened to the back door as well. Problem is the door lock is stuck in closed position. I can't get it open from Outside or Inside. Can't take the panel off as the door needs to be open to access the screws. I've tried google, youtube and AI but no success.
