Car for Triplets

Hi OP, congrats. I know when I was looking, when my second one arrived, I was also looking for a vehicle that could take 2 car seats and a person comfortably in the middle = your car seat. Wasn't many vehicles that fitted that requirement and someone even suggested get a thinner person :), something that I was looking at was the vw caddy long wheel base version. Check it out it may tick your boxes. Good luck.

go to baby city, get 3 car seats and test

isofix is simple to install and they much safer as a seatbelt can snap

oh and did i tell you buy nappies from the mama magic show. and buy alot. Use the jazz and drop the seats and stock up :p

i noticed most of these car seats are the group 0-1 and will last only around 12 months. try and get car seats that last few years so you dont need to buy again as well

Agreed go for 0-3 then you'll never have to buy again. We had to buy twice and I want to kick myself. Also don't get big bulky prams they are useless and too big for the quick mall run. Get strollers, fold up small, pop out quickly. With a pram you take up the whole boot and they're so big & bulky you'd rather leave them in the boot. Strollers are cheaper and they're useful when the kids are bigger don't buy both waste of money. I'd suggest a Mazda 6 or Touran the FRV seems good too.

Keep in mind you become the pack horse, you will have to carry everything so consider that when choosing things like prams/bags etc.

yeah the stroller is much better

we went for the full travel system which really helped as it was as simple as taking the carry car seat from the car to the pram and vice versa

sadly now the pram is very big, fits nicely in the boot but a mission on holidays

Really have to be smart about this.

Was wondering about car seats though...for the new born, would I use that carry cot thing and clip it in? Surely can't use the upright car seat for new born?

The carry cot thing usually comes with base and pram. Easy clip system to make life easy. That is what everyone is referring to as a travel system.
And to your second question, some upright seat do swivel around to be a front or rear facing setup depending on age & weight of passenger. These seats are however bulky and have a biggish base to secure.
Around 12 to 14 months babies can be front facing, depending.

way easier to use a carry car seat

but in terms of having something last a while somethign like the joie stages is from newborn to like 8 years old

try for something which gives you many years of uses

I haven't got tons of cash, for massive vehicles, but any tips, ideas and experiences will be welcomed.

I have a family member that has the same situation, also triplets. All I can say is good luck with that, seriously it's crazy hectic having three kids at once. Anyway they bought a VW Caddy which gets the job done quite nicely. They said it's cheaper because it's a commercial car and doesn't have all the bells and whistles it's a bit cheaper.

I am just telling their story as I don't have a lot of car knowledge. There is other brands that makes models that are cheaper.

Also off topic try to get the triplet pram second hand you can easily safe thousands of Rands.
 
With regards to big seats for newborns they work fine. If you get something like a 0-3 seat they recline so the baby can sleep, they're designed to seat newborns as well and the good ones are both rear and front facing. I prefer rear facing it is much much safer go read up on it. I kept my daughter rear facing until 3, she's now asking to be front facing sometimes but she can still comfortably rear face and shes turning 4 this year. If i knew then what I know now I would never have bought the baby carrier type seats to begin with. You use them for a very sort time and they can be bulky, I just preferred to take my daughter out and carry her in my arm rather than clip the whole mess out then setup a pram and clip this whole business in there just to go buy milk and bread. Your arms might be significantly fuller though.
 
I was wondering about the Caddy, wasn't sure if it came in a passenger variant. Also seen a Nissan V200 I think it is? Van type thing.

With regards to the car seats, there seems to be pros and cons of each. Trying to figure out what would work best for 3! Best I hit the gym and strengthen my back and arms!

So I'm sorry for reviving this old thread but I would like to hear more about your story. Is your wife and triplets in good health? Did everything work out great concerning their birth and health? What happened after their birth? Which vehicle did you end up getting? What equipment did you get for the triplets - pram/stroller/car seats, etc...

We found out last week we might be having triplets (going on Monday to have proper examination and confirmation of what's brewing in my wife's tummy). I am over the moon. I'm excited and just can't wait for Monday to come.

Anyway I've been researching triplets and what not. I've been watching programs and YouTube clips. I've been searching for equipment for triplets and hell it's blerry expensive. I feel in love with this stroller/pram/car seat set but at R18000, there's no way I could ever afford that. I aldi stated looking at vehicles as we currently drive a Polo and I have my sound installed as well so there's no damn space in the boot much less space for 3 car seats to fit at the back.

Anyway I'm babbling here because I'm excited but yeah I'd just get your take on things as you have started the journey I'm about to take now.
