Car Insurance Advice

Something else to note. Don't fall for any bucks back, cash back or points scheme. Just go for the cheapest with the best cover and no bonuses. Insurers lock people in with the bonuses and then increase the premiums significantly once you're with them for over a year. This is because they know people wont switch insurers because their bonuses will be forfeited.

I know this is a bit old but PLZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ stay away from auto and general aka budget,1st for women, virgin money, dial direct

Auto and general will not repair your car like you would trust me.\

1. If you drive after a major accedent they will not pay.
2. If your tires are less than a certain amount of mm they will not pay. [trust me they messure it]

Also when they repaid your car they mostly only pay for repairs. Ive need new audi's,vw and range rovers come to my place of work where auto and general only pay for repair and those new cars gets body filler......

Hi guys,

I'm looking to have a new (used) car we're gonna buy insured.

We've gotten several quotes from different companies, but what they don't tell you on the phone is the horrors of what they'll do to you once you want to claim.

Any companies to avoid?
We've got quotes from:
Auto & General
First for Women
Outsurance
MiWay
iWyze

Are any of the "don't even touch with a stick" type companies?

Thanks for the help!

Unless you are willing to read the policy wording from cover to cover and can understand all the terms and conditions, you risk being stung going direct. I am not slamming any of the companies named (mi-way is 100% owned by Santam and iWyze 100% owned by Old Mutual/Mutual & Federal), but if you're going direct, you need to know what you're being cover for and be able to handle claim if a loss happens.

A reputable broker like AON (now owns Glenrand MIB) or Marsh (was Alexander Forbes) should be able to get you at least 3 competitive quotes.

A reputable broker will be able to comprehensively the cover and policy wording.

A reputable broker will take time to understand your insurance and cover requirements and ask you about insurance covers you may not have indicated.

A reputable broker get you the right cover for your needs.

A reputable broker will be able to help you professionally if you suffer a loss and need to put in a claim.

A reputable broker will be able to effectively negotiate the claim with the company and ensure that you get the best deal settlement and that it is line with your policy cover.

Will you be able to effectively do this yourself if you deal direct?

Erm dude, you should not be driving after a major accident any way :/ and ur tyre tread should at very least have the legal minimum or you are not roadworthy.

Also who the fark uses body filler any more, something tiny maybe, but nowadays panel beaters are panel replacers

If you think so. I work in panel beating and we have about 150 cars that is just from Telesure [aka auto and general and sister companies] and they ALWAYS quote for repair first and if its to badly damaged they quote for replace. If your car is out of warranty you will be shocked that they only pay for a second hand part or pirate. You need to fight with the accessor to get a new geniune part if your car is out of warranty.

Trust me they cut coreners when it comes to repairs. Its about the only company I know that does that.

You guys must also give APBCO Insurance Brokers a shot.

hmm very different from my experience, guess it is cause i went to a decent panel beater

Stay far away from World Link Brokers.

Many threads like this already and I think Santam keeps coming out tops.
Worst, most dishonest insurance company I have ever had the displeasure of dealing with.

Seems like my exact experience with A&G, I cancelledcshortly afterwards went with a broker and never looked back.

I do all my insurance through a friend of mine. I just bought a Saab and he got the premium down from R800-ish (not including driving to work) to R500-ish all inclusive.

Thanks for the feedback! Much appreciated. What I gather is the general consensus is to use a broker. Guess if they cut out the middle man for you they also cut in some extra fees for you.

Thanks, I completely forgot about pps! Problem is, the car will be in my GFs name (since its her car). She does not have a four year degree, but I do. Is it possible for me to insure the car for her (@pps)?

I'm with Miway, have my fiance's car insured through my policy. Best advice....go onto hellopeter and look at complaints / compliments ratio of all the different insurers then you will get at least some background to their customer service. Also a good option....play the insures up against themselves. I did that, got my premium from R878 for my own vehicle to R948 for both our vehicles.

Hello Peter will give you an indication but don't make a decision based on those numbers - simple reason is for eg

Santam might have 10 000 complaints
Miway might have 5 000 complaints

Miway might look better but Santam has 18% of the market and Miway 4% of the market.

Above are just to explain.

Rather go through a broker anyhow.
