Hi guys,

I'm looking to have a new (used) car we're gonna buy insured.

We've gotten several quotes from different companies, but what they don't tell you on the phone is the horrors of what they'll do to you once you want to claim.

Any companies to avoid?
We've got quotes from:
Auto & General
First for Women
Outsurance
MiWay
iWyze

Are any of the "don't even touch with a stick" type companies?

Thanks for the help!

if u got a 4 year degree ... try pps ... good prices ... can't really comment on the claims , as I have had none :)

I've only been insured with Santam and Outsurance.

Wrote off a car 2 months after starting my Santam policy and they paid out without any issues. Outsurance also paid out for a fender bender without any hassles, but their premiums are much higher than what I got at Santam via brokers.

Auto and general and first for woman are same co. so is budget.

One of main difference between all insurers is excess charges.

Went from Budget to Mutual & Federal, via a broker. Got muuuuuuuuuuch better cover at a lower premium.

OUTSurance's whole 'cut out the middleman'-story is just a marketing line. There's a reason why brokers exist.

There's always someone that has had a bad experience with some insurer. Just get the cheapest from a more well known insurer and read the documents to make sure you know what you're signing up for.

Thanks for the feedback! Much appreciated. What I gather is the general consensus is to use a broker. Guess if they cut out the middle man for you they also cut in some extra fees for you.

Thanks, I completely forgot about pps! Problem is, the car will be in my GFs name (since its her car). She does not have a four year degree, but I do. Is it possible for me to insure the car for her (@pps)?

would not know dude ... but u can always phone and find out ;)
btw ... they offered me the best premiums with very little excess as well

I'm sure you can insure your GF's car. My wife's previous car was insured on my name. Her new car is on her name.

She is with Outsurance and I'm with MF. I was also with Indwe(Previously Prestasi) until they implemented a high excess on my then Citi golf. So I moved.

Brokers have purchasing power, hence they can haggle for better prices. You can do the same too, but it takes a bit of time and effort.

Use a broker.

The one I use is really good and has gotten me some really good deals.
