Hi All,

Not sure if this has been asked before, but looking for comprehensive car insurance for my car. Toyota Corrola 1.6 2009. First time getting insurance and trying to find a good company to do it with. Outsurance quoted me 3 grand for it!!:wtf: So looking for something around 1000 or less.

Thanks

Try dial-direct & miway, they are cheaper than outsurance.

Don't believe all the cut-out-the-middleman carp spewed by these 'budget' insurers; whatever they save on paying commission they likely spend on marketing instead. Go to a proper broker. I have a Mutual & Federal policy via these guys and I've never had reason to complain. They substantially undercut the green clowns when I was shopping around.

I've just had a quote today from a broker that is almost 50% cheaper than Outsurance (on an apples for apples basis)

+1

I'm paying R365 for R110K insurance, wife R200 for R50K thanks to our broker. Our excess is R2K but windscreen is R500. No questions asked, he does all the paper work

yup agree with going with a broker i was quoted R1500 for just my car from outsurance with a R3500 excess even after being with them for the last 5 years. The broker came back with R1180 including my household and no excess. it seems cutting out the middle man is more expensive than they lead you to believe.

Yip, go with a broker. If you are in PTA/JHB I can send you a contact number for the brokers I use.

Outsurance quoted me something like R1200/m with a R5000 excess for my previous car, ended up paying R600/m with a R2500 excess and R350 windscreen excess with them.

Broker for sure! Don't even think of going with that cheap insurance. You'll waste your money. I call my broker, everything is approved the next day. No holding, listening to stupid music telling you you're number 563 in the queue, nothing.

Paying less for car insurance doesn't mean that you will get good service from them.

A woman drove into my car two weeks ago her fault coming out of a parking bay joining traffic without making sure it clear for her.
A Metro Cop take down the details of the incident and submitted it to SAPS, I was then asked by the insurance company to submit a drawing of the accident and a description of what happened, e-mailed it to them and also request that they must screw the other party's insurance for the damages.
Next thing the insurance company called me requesting that I must pay the excess amount and they will try their best to recover that money from the other insurance company.
I lost my bonus because I paid the excess, so damn unfair.
No courtesy vehicle for me for this you must an extra R25 to your policy and I never informed about this.

I think after this episode I'll just move back to Santam.

Ummmm what you have described ahf, is pretty much par for the course with all insurance companies.

You pay, they try reclaim for the other party...

Outsurance (or any of the cut the middlemen companies) are well known for giving first timers ridiculous rates.

I would advise having a chat to Santam or Hollard instead, or a broker that can quote for them.

Sounds to me more like you should have read your policy before signing for it.

Nothing what you described above is wrong or bad service on the part of the insurance company...they are doing exactly what you are paying them to do.

Excess is an agreement YOU signed for in the case of any accident...perfectly normal. The lack of a courtesy car again is something YOU signed for...you can't claim you were never informed of this as you accepted a contract that either says you have a courtesy car or you don't. If you there is no mention of that kind of cover on the policy...then you don't have that kind of cover. It's very simple really.

Santam will be no different.

@Toxixbunny and SauRoNZA....thanks for the info now I have a better understanding how things really works.
@SauRoNZA....no-one at the insurance company gave me the option of adding the R25 for a hired vehicle.
