Why would you give your car a name? Do you also give your kettle a name? How about your TV? Why stop there then, I think if you can give your car a name you might as well dish out names to your shower or maybe even your garage?

Names are what you give to things that are alive - and not a plant or tree.

When I move that stick into sports mode and floor it I do find myself stroking the steering wheel and telling her what a beauty she is.

To my mates she it is just a car. Personally though - well....

Now that I think about it, how does these names work in conversation? I mean when you talk to your friend do you just say "Well we can take Oscar" and then they are all puzzled because no one knows who Oscar is and you then have to break the awkward silence explaining that you thought it wise to give your car a name? How does that usually work for you?

Personally for me its like this "Lets take my car". Or when its me and my wife talking it will be "My kar of jou kar?" or "Die Corsa of die Astra?" Even in that conversation it will be silly if we gave the cars names because you refer to them by proxy of the regular driver or the type/make/model.

To others it is just a cab. When you are driving your cab, it becomes a she and you view her differently.

My wife has however asked me when I am going to make use of the exhaust pipes She knows how I feel and thankfully she (my wife that is) does not get jealous (of the car that is).

When I was younger my cab was called The Beast but by mates. I really do like my cab, but not to the point I am illustrating above. Was just having a bit of fun

these movies give cars life and perhaps a bit of green on the side really goes along way for the imagination

I personally call mine "wood" as i said cos well thats easy to explain to friends:

going over a robot: "haha imagine crashing now"
"that would be crazy but no thanks, touch wood"
"ah ***** theres no wood around"
"dont worry my cars name is wood just touch wood and u stay lucky"

Im a bit superstitious though but hey has worked wonders for me. Also my dad is a mechanic and he kind of bonds with his bikes. I kind of learnt it from him and since my young days ive always had a name for my racing bikes, or atleast my dad would have 1 and i would use it. So maybe some of it was passed on from our dad's as well. just added thoughts/theory's
