Hi :) This is a long story which I shall try make as brief as possible.

In 2008, I bought a car from someone in a nearby city, paid cash and returned a few days later with the change of ownership forms , my part filled out, and asked him to complete his section. A few days later I went to register the car, only to find that he had still not done change of ownership. After many calls and promises, I went back to his business, which had closed down. ANd he disappeared, I used tracing agents, lawyers, went to traffic department(no help) He had purchased the vehicle frfom ABSA REpo who had done change of ownership to him, he never registered the car in his name before selling it to me. Actually reading this, I feel like an idiot, because the reg papers state ABSA REPO as the owners, should have nown it was a dodge deal. % years later, I have been driving around with RWC, affidavits etc wherever I go. I now need to sell the car, as I am tired of maintaing an american gas guzzler.......that doesn't even belong to me!!

About 3 weeks ago, I put an ad in the paper about this, and guess what, he emailed me the next day, completely oblivious of why???!!! He is still giving me the runaround and I am getting highly PO'ed.

I do have registration papers, and the bank statements from EFT, no proof of purchase, I know I am an idiiot for not getting his ID etc, but perhaps I have too much trust in people, my bad.

What can I do, please do not suggest the traffic department as they are not willing to help at all

Pheww.....long story

and the back penalties etc are going to be huge as it is a 4x4:( but surely that is his responsibility?

You will have to go to your nearest licencing department (Humansdorp or Uitenhage) and sort it out...

Good luck!

You have to approach ABSA REPO to sort this out as they are the current title holder and owner of the car. The guy you bought it from can't help if the car is not in his name.

I have been to Humansdorp and Port Elizabeth Traffic depts, they all say that he needs to register the vehicle in his name and do change of ownership to me, I have approached ABSA, they say they did change of ownership to this guy and cannot help, I do have the registration papers

Or approach ABSA for the papers and transfer it to your name...

I would certainly try that. They will have proof that this other idiot has paid in full.

Only problem is no ID...............there are also people out there who can fix this sort of thing for a fee, but then you are moving from one dodgy character to another!!

I had to get a tracing agent at one point, they did find his ID number, and not much else, but as he has replied to the ad I placed in the paper, I now have his work details and his phone numbers

Then speak to him nicely and ask if he would prefer being reported to the police or helping you out...:)
