Hi guys.

Ive booked a rental car through www.economycarrentals.com, and the provider i was given was bidvest.

My receipt tells me i only need to pay R950 (After paying a deposit of R550) at the rental desk, yet i phoned bidvest,
They told me i also need to pay a R5000 deposit for the car.

Has anyone rented a car from them? How does this work...why would my reciept tell me i only need R950 at the desk, and then they tell me i also need R5000, only after I've paid the deposit...

Last time I rented a car, granted many years ago, if you did not pay by credit card rental agencies required a large cash amount as deposit.

I think its a R5000 reserve on your credit card. Most rental companies do this as far as I know. The reserve is lifted after you return the car and all is in order. If they have to fill up it will come off your card.

That.

R5000 is the deposit ,you get it back if the car is still in one piece when you give it back to them.

I am renting bmw 3 series next weekend for my wedding from Europcar ,holding deposit is R33400! I took out the extra insurance for R180 ,then the R33400 gets paid back to me in case something happens that I need to pay the R33400 to Europcar.

They put a surety reserve on your cc. This is normal.

R5k deposit is massively huge - taking into account it looks like you only need the car for a few days? I pay about 3.5k excess for 4 days rental with Europcar which is returned after car is returned. This generally happens at the counter. Class B vehicle.

Sounds like somebody got the deposit amount wrong.

the holding deposits are usually very high. i wouldnt stress to much over it.

I rent from Avis. Their holding deposit is about R2500 to R3000. The only time they've asked for a R5000 deposit was over a weekend unless I showed my boarding pass, which I did. I have no idea why it would have been so much more. The hold on your credit card is usually released about 2 days after you return the car.

And, PS, fill the car up yourself before returning it otherwise they charge a surcharge.

Actually with Bidvest, they instruct you not to fill up, I can't remember the reason but there was a pamphlet in the car explaining it. They prefer to do it, and I dont think they charge for it.

The reason they ask for R5000 unless you show a boarding pass is to prevent locals renting cars at low deposit over weekends to go on high risk joy rides.

I only pay 1700 deposit because I use an agency. Unlimited kms and any class vehicle.

Because they prefer to also fill the expansion space.

Bidvest would be ignored. I return cars with full tanks.

Alright...Is there a much of a difference between prices @ rental companies? Which are the cheapest (in george), i managed to cancel my booking, as id like to understand fully before i book again.
