It's not that bad. I paid about R500 for two doors. Negotiated the price with them since I was having quite a bit done at the same time. Definitely worth it though...

With the install I had, I had to do more than just 2 doors and also, I am bad at negotiating with them. :D
 
I was at the shop earlier and spoke to them about the kickers, they told me i can also go for the cerwins, also 6.5 components.. same price aswell xD does it matter which ones? or which would u choose?
thanks for advice guys im a total noob with car audio

Okay, so I have read a lot of positive reviews on Cerwin Vega, but a resent trip to an sound shop with a "durbanese" owner, he told me it's the cheaper version of Rockford and said person did an install for my friend and they f###ed up, so now I don't trust that guy anymore and I don't know what to think of Cerwin Vega. I would rather stay with the brands that I have tried and tested/used. I will always recommend Hertz splits, Rockford and Lightning Audio subs and amps.

OP, those are some really high end splits to pair with a Dixon.. :confused:
My suggestion, get the splits, flog the Dixon, get a decent Kenwood/JVC/Pioneer/Sony head unit.

You don't have to do it all at once- save up a bit for each component.
Also, why not look at spits that are maybe a tier lower but still good? I honestly think you'll get better results with a good head unit and good speakers than with a pos head unit and great speakers. Besides, at 100wrms, you're only going to need an amp- zero point in not getting one. Sure they'll work without an amp but then you may as well not do it at all.

Garbage in => garbage out.
The speakers can only work with what you give them, and if the signal they receive is ***, well then, guess what...
 
can you recommend a headunit/tier down speaker? i still need to buy an antenna and install it all. id prefer a head unit under R1k, all adds up D:

My SO has a Kicker Component set running of the stock headunit in her i10. Sounds decent but not very loud. The intention was to amplify them at a later stage, but she is happy with the sound as it is.

I would recommend selling the Dixon and look for a Pioneer/Kenwood/Sony/JVC headunit. You could pick up a basic HU for R700 like http://www.soundmatch.co.za/Products/Product/1750/pioneer-deh-155mp-aux-mp3-cd-player

Or a few R100s more if you want USB, or a R1000 more for Bluetooth. These headunit brands are also very quick to sell if you want to upgrade to better features later.

Where are you based? We could recommend a decent installer in your area. They might even give you a better deal, especially if you're purchasing and installing from them.

ok, well ill try sell the dixon, if i can get R300 for it ill be happy to get a pioneer xD, Im in PE

Cerwin Vega is a well respected name in home audio circles who branched out into car audio. Google Cerwin Vega Stroker to see one of their subwoofers that is a beast.

They are distributed locally by Audiomotive who are the Rockford Fosgate agents for SA so that may be why they were referred to as a cheaper version of RF.

Lightning Audio was released as the "Budget Line" of RF a few years ago but now RF has their own Prime range which is their budget range.

There's this JVC which looks to be very decent at the price- even plays FLAC files, and has Android music playback.

Then there are these Pioneer splits- rated at 60wrms- not the 100w of the ones in the op, but still plenty more than the head unit can supply without an amp. Also has a decent frequency response 32-43,000 Hz - which I admit might even sound bit too good to be true for a 6" system.

Should put at round about R2k- as per your budget.
Of course there are plenty other options- and they may even be better even at the same price- I'm not an expert by any stretch of the imagination (I also kept to takealot-sourced items as that was what you linked to in the op).

These deals looks good, but if it was me, I would try to purchase from an installer. Otherwise you would have to pay anything between R300 & R500 extra for installation.

I would go for Lightning Audio over Cerwin Vega. You can't compare the new CV products with the original CV Strokers. The new CV products are currently being made in a different factory. Might even be in a different country.

I once had 3 way Lightning Co-axials running straight off my headunit. It was much easier to install than a split system. And also sounded great.

I am currently running a set of Hertz mille pro splits off a RE Audio Amplifier. Properly installed with decent spacers and sound deadening.

I am not comparing any 2 brands. I am just saying that CV is not a budget brand like XTC or Dixon.

I have owned Lightning Audio speakers in the past and they are very good. Dabbling in car audio for close on 20 years now so I know a little about the subject.

Currently I have Dynaudio Esotec components with Mosconi amps and a Gladen SQX10 woofer in my car.
