Car tyre dealers

Just wondering if anyone can provide some input.

Firstly looking for tyres, thinking of going for Goodyears as that's the best price for a brand that I am aware of. Please give me reasons not to if any?

Secondly how can some standalone dealers be much cheaper than a dealer that would be on the official Goodyear website for instance? (Authorised)

Would these tyres be either fake or old and therefore inferior?

Any input is appreciated, currently hiq has a special on the tyres I'm looking at for R830 and I can find the same tyres from a non auth dealer for a little cheaper R780. Is it best to go to an authorised dealer for R200 more (changing all 4 tyres)

Just be weary of the manufacture date as tires have a safety life of 5-7yrs and most of the time tires on special is when they are already a year or two old.

maybe the non auth dealer isn't a chain and doesn't have royalties or network purchasing to contend with ?

Hectic stuff.

Old tires have been the culprit in fatal accidents. Here are just two examples:

In 2008, the owner of a 1998 Ford Explorer in Georgia needed a new tire for his SUV and bought a used one. When he was driving two weeks later, the tread suddenly separated from the tire. The Explorer went out of control and hit a motorcycle, killing its rider. An analysis of the used tire revealed that it was nearly 10 years old.

In a more recent and high-profile example, the investigation into the cause of the 2013 accident that killed the actor Paul Walker revealed that the Porsche Carrera GT in which he was riding had 9-year-old tires. The California Highway Patrol noted that the tires' age might have compromised their drivability and handling characteristics, according to the Los Angeles Times.

15" I managed to get a special at HiQ, special on currently, R400 back if you buy 4 X tyres of 15" I believe, it pop's up as soon as you enter their site. So they gave the R400 off the total price.

The guy was able to give me a better price on the tyre than what was on the site so instead of R900 a tyre I paid R730 a tyre then R495 for fitment, valves and alignment. Checked the date on the tyre and they are 2019 so hopefully all good.
