Ahoy all

Lately I have been thinking of moving away from a Mybb role to one that actually works out for me.
The job im doing is getting abit boring and i dont see myself moving forward.

So I have 2 options,

1: get out

2: stay a little and ask for a raise (but how)

I want to get more into the development side of things and my current role doesnt allow me to do that, so im guessing its better for me to get out but also im thinking of companies.

Is it worth moving to a smaller company or staying with a large firm ?

What do you guys base decisions on and with regards to a raise, my manager is far far away so how do i go about asking for one ?

What are you doing at the moment sammy my boy?

And no, don't ask for a raise. If you're bored than look for something more challenging

You'd be happy to stagnate as long as they give you more money?
Why do you not see yourself moving forward in your current role?

Im in the BI space (more a reporting and analysis role) but not in a development role and the work i been doing for a year that i have been here is basically the same thing my colleague did for last 2/3 years .

I need money cause what I earn is very low compared to some friends who completed they studies with me ...

Same here, got a job with a development role but am actually stuck in a BI reporting position. And you know what *I DONT CARE*. It's a bit boring/frustrating at times (data + users), but I get paid.

Option 2) Yo, how about a raise! (if they didn't give you one/or a review yearly like they should)

hehe :D ..im not complaining ...if my company has a better role i will stay

im 26 and have future plans and with the salary and role im in, a house and a 150k car is a dream that will never come true

iv been here a year now and from the talk around the company, a raise is a dream as well

BI in MS, Oracle, etc?

i use oracle at the moment and have experience with OBIEE 10/11G but more in a reporting role

That's why cars are evil. Rather get one, pay it off, then get a house. Or hell, don't even get a car, buy a house.

Dude, i am in a similar position as you. The salary i earn now is alright, but no where near close enough to actually be able to afford a house some day.
I am currently paying off my car but i still have another 5 years of payments left and bugger me if i am going to stay in my current place till my car is paid off!

I am bored of my job, i want something that is actually challenging again.

Jobs in which you sit around not doing a huge amount are unlikely to get a straight up raise on. You can try to be promoted internally if you speak to the management about how they see you going in the future and what you can do to get there.

The other option is what I did with moving to this job: spend some time every day searching on job listing websites and going to interviews in your spare time. You don't really have anything to lose and nobody looks oddly at you if you change jobs a few times in your career these days as long as it isn't a habitual thing.

The question is how are you paid relative to the market? If you can gauge that you will get an idea of what you should do. What are similarly qualified jobs going at?

A bigger car doesn't necessarily have to mean a R150K car. Our family gets along perfectly well in comfort and safety with a minimum of hassle on a sub-40K vehicle. But I'm not trying to tell you how you must spend your money dude.

im in the same space as most of you guys ...that being BI but on a different tech...
what salary brackets are you guys is? i dont expect you guys to dislose exact info --- ballpark figures?
and whats your qualification level?

im in the +-150k total C2C range and after deductions its sad :p and i have a bcom (honors) in information systems and i have like 4 courses that i did at oracle university

cerebus i know what you mean ...i have golf mk1 now that was 50k so that i will keep but i will want something reliable and bigger. The jobs im looking at atleast pay close to 200k-250k PA C2C with similar experience . Developers with atleast 4/5 years experience get around double that from what i saw on job sites

Put your qualifications and work experience down maybe we can help you find a job

my word -- sounds like you getting shaffted if this is real...
also dont always believe what you see offered on job sites -- not always the truth
what they do is say 600k for this position 4-5 years blah blah...
when they offer you position they see what you were previously earnning an slap a % on to it...its a relative ... i dont really think many companies are going to bumb you from 250k to 600k if you were earning 250k after 5 years

150k CTC after deductions is like 9k. That's not enough for a BCom grad. You need out, asap. Put yourself out there. You have a job, it's not like you're desperate, but start looking seriously.
