Career Advice

Net of 13k should be a minimum. Set yourself a target salary which you aren't willing to go below. The fact that you already have work means you can have a certain standard.

In the meantime, go home tonight and brush off the CV. Redo it. Cut out all the PickNPay till jobs, and expand it out with your most recent achievements. Create a template cover letter and adapt it as much as possible to each relevant job posting. Then just go onto Indeed and Pnet every day and see what you can find.

Interviews will take up a half-day so you might want to be circumspect about how much time you take off while you're jobseeking. Make looking for a job your second job. It took me over a year but I have a lower qualification than you. And eventually the job I did get was better in terms of possibilities than I really thought I'd get.

PS your manager will not give it to you. They simply have no motivation to raise your salary.

i have been sending off my cv but i am not too sure how good it is ...i suck at writing a motivational cover letter so thats my issue maybe

and no no i dont have any pick ad pay till jobs :p

Oh I've got a mountain of those till/pub/factory type jobs in my past.

The main thing with a CV is relevancy, clarity and conciseness (that's 3 things). And with a cover letter it's just about targeting the job requirements. Anyway do some reading there's lots of 'how to write a good cover letter/CV' help online. Take the time to build a proper PNet profile, you'll find they start contacting you out of the blue with that.

I think i must build one and post for advice or changes

Thanks for the help. i need time to just start browsing and applying

On another note, say i do ask for a raise, do i just say hey times are tough in a good way and i need a raise

As a Honours Grad, you would be getting around 320k as a PM1. You are waaaaaaaaaay below that. You need to move guy, do some job hopping.

They not going to give you a huge increase, i promise you that. Apply elsewhere. But ask for an increase, if you get it, work for an extra 2 - 3 months, then leave, because the next company is going to slap a % on your last salary.

Woah..5 years, Honour and only 150 CTC nett. You are being shafted with no lube.. Will check if anyone I know has opening's.. looking to move to JHB?

yeah i am applying else where but there are more development jobs than anything and not having enough exposure to sql and pl/sql i think is a downfall..

do people consider self study of sql and stuff ?

i started in jhb and if i stayed i would have been earning alot more, but i cannot handle jhb and the other half is this side as well so yeah wont move

Dude, that's nothing. I know a PM with less years experience than me. She is earning 320k. She has 1 and a half years experience....

Aren't you the one buying the Toyota GT86

Never understood the big deal with pharmacists, the most difficult thing they have to do is figure out the doctor's handwriting :p

Lol, we do waaay more than that sir, well we suppose to. Though I will divulge the secrets with government employment rates.

Pharmacists get grades, 1 2 3 according to experience salary ranges from 24k to 50k. The retail pharmacist, the guy you give your 'paper' to, doesnt get that. He gets R24.00 per prescription he processes. With that R24.00 he must pay the electricity bill, staff, delivery charges, water bill, rent, tax ect. Now that clicks has been allowed to be pharmacies (before a pharmacy was only allowed to be pharmacist owned) he must compete with a massive franchise, that pushes its own products that have 0 test data because they are "supplements". Pharmacists in clicks are FORCED to push the clicks brand they get rated for it, hence why i refused to work for clicks. If i need cash I locum there and I dont move of the chair. Now clicks/dischem are huge businesses hence their buying power is greater hence the cheaper medicine (discounting). Now I dont really have a problem with the franchise its like a shopkeeper claiming they must ban PnP. I do have a problem with them cutting deals with drug companies then forcing the medical staff to push their formularies and bluff their patients "its the same thing", I believe If a patient wants a specific product and they legal to obtain it then they must get what they asked for, you can suggest BETTER products but never worse.

Also a lot of the pharms in these places are part time so you dont get the total care you suppose to have. The job of a pharmacist is to safe guard the patient (at that level), your pharmacist is suppose to know your ENTIRE drug history, because you will have many doctors your pharmacy its suppose to be the central hub where your medical history across the board is complied, that has be lost in the massive corporate explosion of pharmacy.

For comparison the Drs in state start at 40k and go right up to 100k , they also under paid if you ask me for the level of work they do, you try working a 72 hour straight shift and an infectious MDR/XDR TB zone or with the criminally insane. How much would it cost for me to stab you with an HIV infected needle ? hmmmm

anyways pharmacist = poor = GT86
doctor = not so poor and overworked = porsche

though the pinnacle of medicine is a pharmacist, thats where im trying to go. Pharmceutical company. A friend of mine owns a pharmaceutical production plant he makes only 5 drugs for SA (generics), he lives in monaco now, probably has a bigger garage than jay leno D: its a freaking parkade.

You know if your doctor wrote neatly you probably have your meds in like a minutes TBH. They write like scht because they cant spell half the drugs so they put the first letter and the last 3 usually

That's what I did with my last two jobs. I got a 15 percent increase the January, the February I applied for a job and they asked me how much I was getting and they beat that with 15 percent. I was a little cocky and told them I have no need to leave my current job as I enjoy it (which I did). They on the other hand needed a systems analyst badly...and I knew that as I friend of mine works for them. :)

So sammy my boy, its a dirtly little game where if you have enough info on them, YOU can be the one giving them buttsex! Do some research.

thats kind off my plan ..last i heard they never gave anyone increases in Jan, so not sure who got and who didnt get. I started last year July and i was desperate to come back to Cpt so i took the job so when they did or if they did have an increase i didnt ask cause i received one after my 6 month probation (not much tho)

so now our next increase is Jan and im not sure if we will get one but even if i get a 7-10% thats nothing. So im hoping i can ask for one next week and if i get one i can maybe use that as a bargain tool for new companies

You should also look for a job in Bellville or Tygervalley. Just think how sweet it'd be to walk to the office :)
