Hi,

Are there any scripts or anything that one can get from last night's show?

Missed the money one and it looked interesting ...

The discussed the new rates and taxes laws, the UFS incident and how an orgasm a day keeps the doctor away....

The rates one was really just a few people with way too expensive houses moaning about their rates going up quite dramatically.... if you own a R14,000,000 house are you really that short of money?

Hmmm... found in Sectional title townhouses there is not much difference. :/

Do you have any idea what the repayment on your bond is with a R14 million bond?

I would also complain.

You missed the point - the valuators seemed to thumbsuck property values when they determine the valuation role, thus the discrepancies that crept in when comparing affluent Soweto houses to similarly priced Bryanston houses.

So with an average property - not much changes ... ?

It's typical. They always do this. Maybe I should move to Soweto, I'll pay less for Electricity, Water and of course Rates - or maybe I won't pay at all. It's one thing to subsidise the poor but subsidising wealthy blacks, that's just not fair.

If you have a 3 million rand house in Randburg, the council overvalues it to 5 million, you are going to get pomped.
If you have a 5 million rand house in Soweto, the council under values your house to about 1 million rand and you dont get pomped.

That pretty much sums it up.

Ka-chinnggg! The excuse offered was that these people have only just got used to the idea of actually paying for anything. Cant just up the rates now cause then they wont pay, and we know the council wont just cut them off as they do in other areas.
These are not poor people, they live in mansions.

Check on the MNet website. They ought to have a seperate section with previous inserts from Catre Blanche.

Sorry peeps it works both ways. You wanted to have a fully integrated country then this kind of thing comes with the territory. You can't have your cake and eat it too!

meaning you didn't want a fully integrated society??

As the one man said on CB last night, we expect to subsidise the 'have nots', it comes with the territory, but not subsidising those that are substantially better off than your self.

On which side of the fence are you? The only person who would find that acceptable is one who is benefiting by paying less. Even poor black people would be against it because in a way they're also subsidising the rich blacks. Example, if the wealthy blacks in Soweto paid rates on fair market values, the city would either have more revenue or could slightly decrease the rate at which property rates is calculated.

It's not acceptable.

No, meaning that you didn't pay rates before due to the Apartheid government's insistence that "the whites don't need the blacks help" (or something along those lines). Now we're all equal and we all pay equally (or rather equally on the basis of what we own). i.e. Cake and eat it part that was mentioned.

Good point. I still want to do a flyer drop over poor areas pointing out these things. :D
