Best Country in the world!
Just been watching the story on AsiaWing trucks. Theit built quality is shocking! Whats worse is how the SABS’s oversight allowed hundreds of these trucks on our roads without the required roadworthy.

I've said it all along - taxis aren't the only death traps, trucks and buses are just as bad - if not worse because they have the potential to cause more damage.

And that's not even taking into account all the filth they emit and the congestion they cause.

I saw one of those new no-name (Korean I think) brand taxis the other day. Those things look scary top-heavy.

I wish we had one of those European annual roadworthiness test where the tune you **** for every tiny detail that is wrong.

If we could just teach all the taxi drivers that the right lane on the highway is for going >60km/h then I would already be a lot happier.

I get the feeling some money changed hands to allow the trucks to be registered using the motor bike numbers.

Exactly.

1 model, ok, maybe it was an oversight. It happens.

But EVERY model having the incorrect code? I smell Fraud and bribery...

Me thinks the big, brand companies like Toyota, Ford, Isuzu are kicking up a stink. Granted that mistakes where made, but it is high time that we can also buy cheaper. They have exploited us long enough. All about market share.

The motor companies charge, what they believe their customers are willing to pay. If we stop buying a new model car the moment it is released, prices will come down. If people drove their cars for 5+ years, prices will come down.

Too many new cars on the road, means people can afford new cars, and thus there is a market for expensive new cars.

All these cheap Chinese, etc cars, is there to fill a gap left by the other manufacturers. And they tend to play dirty, if you look at things they did in Namibia.

As long as VW can sell the Golf MK1 as a new car under different guises (VeloCITI etc), with SABS approval, we will keep getting cheap, crap cars from the East.

I've read on this forum's news section that China has a car that sells for R18000.
Imagine that death trap - it's propably build using very old technology!

Probably just designed to be cheap, and not durable.
The Golf MK I is old technology, but it's proven also as a reliable solution.

IMO, the age of the technology, does not always equate to being poor quality.

Had a look at those Chinese 4x4 bakkies that McCarthy is importing.

Scary

The problem is with our local authorities and the SABS.
You get what you pay for but we are also overcharged on most brands so competition is healthy if we could just set standards and apply the existing laws in this country there would be no problem but then again ......this is AFRICA
