cat5e vs cat6

I really like these cameras. I see the mini bullet is IP66 rated which is awesome. I was expecting to drop R1.5k to R2k per camera so this thing sits right on my budget. Picture quality is awesome. Cannot complain about that at all.

I found a few stores selling it for around R2k mark. Any others you are aware of - and possibly cheaper?

Take a look at the Axis range of IP Cameras. They are a bit pricey but the quality is excellent.

iSpy's a really interesting FOSS tool, and I'm busy working my way through it (too). A more grown up approach, still free, is available in XProtect Go ..and BOTH systems support/recognise Hikvision cameras (I checked). :)

Have you checked out Zoneminder? I played around with it a while back but I was having issues with drivers in Linux so I ditched it. I would like to give it a go again when I have some time.

By a "bit pricey" if you mean basically the most expensive in our market, then yes; they're not the cheapest. But they are pretty much the best.

You mean the ZoneMinder I'm using to build another cctv system with a 4-port analog capture card and analog cams, so as to squeeze the best possible value out of what I have to work with while wasting the least amount on the existing hardware and spending the least?
