A friend has a Rat in their kitchen and wants to buy Rat poison -

I don't believe in painfully killing anything-

I suggested a wooden ramp into a bucket laced with peanut butter - no idea if this works -

Any other ideas - or this Rat will die a painful death

Note: It must be easy otherwise she won't bother and just kill it

Tried the bucket contraption for a mouse which failed miserably

Eh I'm just against posion -

Poor rat-
And there are 3 dogs that could accidently ingest the ****e

Good old fashioned rat traps.Problem with poison is that if he decides to die where you can't get to it, its going to cause a massive stink.
Decomposing rat is a definite no no.

Rat poison is horrific. Can't you get one of those cage traps with food inside and then the door closes.

Use rattex. It will look for water so will go outside to die.

I lived with rats in a shoddy student commune in my first year at uni. *shudder*

Yeah don't go with poison. Animals have a tendency to die to the most hard to reach places. You'd think that after being so considerate and killing them in the most painful way possible they would at least have the decency to die in the outside bin. But nooooooo.

Plain old spring rat traps (watch your fingers) or call an exterminator. Their poison is usually better quality and does something that prevents the stink.

Had rats in my old house..
Rattex didn`t work
They ate the sticky paper that was supposed to humanely trap them.
They did kinda leave once we smoked their hole/den thing(it had a snake which we removed and donated to the zoo I think)
Removing food sources like bowls of fruit and stuff helped too.

I personally don`t mind killing rats humanely through poison, opposed to burning them alive or boiling them in water

+1 to get rid of it asap
We accedentally let ours breed and there were millions of babies..

Rat poison really bad , not only does the rat suffer and die (may take couple days from what i understand) , the dead rat can also cause pets to die if the rat is caught and injested as well as birds that may peck on them. its really really bad. i would suggest a normal rat trap and a quick death , put some tuna on the end where the cheese is supposed to be , i heard that this works

Nothing but killing will work. I'm not speaking from inexperience. It's just your wussy disposition that shrinks from death. It's a part of nature, and if you don't do it the rat will spread and will contaminate everything and make your friend's family ill.

Racumin doesn't cause secondary poisoning of owls, dogs etc.
I'm just curious, what will you do with it if you catch it?

Go borrow someone's cat and don't feed it for a couple of days. Let nature take care of it...

Release it humanely so that someone else can poison it?

If it makes you feel any better rats are a pest that dont belong in SA, they do damage to the local mice and birds etc. so by killing it you may save some indigenous animals.
