Catching a Rat

That's the biggest load of projective crap I have ever heard - How did you get "Fear of Death" from "Don't want to torture living beings" - I would have no problem if one of the dachshunds kill it. Since when is Rattex nature-

I am quite surprised there is this much apathy towards animals and poison

I never use poison on rats. Just straightforward old fashioned spring loaded traps. It really is the most humane way we know of, so the world STILL hasn't built a better mousetrap.

And that I can agree on - out of most of the suggested methods (besides trap and release humanely)
Mouse trap is the best and most humane - insta-kill

The problem with trap and release methods is they just don't work. You can try the door closing things, I've never managed to catch anything by doing them. The other issue with poison is the rats decompose and can really stink and then you have to get them from the walls or wherever they're hiding.

Yeah, in my experience the trap and release traps don't really work. I've only every caught one mouse in one of them. For the rest of the times they didn't really bother with the traps.

You guys have no hearts

Nope. I gas them and decapitate them and do cardiac punctures on them to draw their blood.

Dont be so sympathetic to the rodents. They are pests, kill them fast and quickly. Besides the poison isnt painful, rats/mice vocalise when they are in pain, the noise they make is so cute. They overdose and they passout. The poison bleeds them out internally ... i.e they die in their sleep

My rats are awesome, they have soft fluffy fur. You can put them in the lab coat pocket and they will sleep inside since they nocturnal. For the sensitive ones the rats are treated with the best care possible (better than some people) because the biological system needs to be as perfect as possible to create valid results. I get sad when I have to harvest them but hey someone has to be a cruel mofo so you okes can live 20 extra years to tell me how cruel I am :p

edit:

the least painful way is to chemically euthanise the animal i.e poison. Painless procedure. Traps ect are physical means of euthanisia and its extremely painful for a short period of time. Once the lab tech botched up a physical euthanisia (decap the head to preserve the brain tissue) .... I will never forget that poor rat's suffering. He missed the neck because he didnt hold the rat correctly and hit its snout, gosh I was furious with the stupid fellow so yeah your traps can be very painful for the animal if it malfunctions.

the easiest way (for your sensitivity) is to catch it and release it but this is too much effort. Also this isnt a lab rat or a pet it harbours dangerous diseases and if it bites you, you can be in serious trouble
