Catching a Rat

So a girl wants to kill the rat, and you're squeamish about it? Man-card revoked.

Just kill the damn thing. Poison, as was mentioned, might mean it will die and stink up the place where you can't get to it. Easiest, cleanest way is probably a trap. Or pull an Oscar and bash its head in with a bat/shovel/rock.

Nothing but killing will work. I'm not speaking from inexperience. It's just your wussy disposition that shrinks from death. It's a part of nature, and if you don't do it the rat will spread and will contaminate everything and make your friend's family ill.

That's the biggest load of projective crap I have ever heard - How did you get "Fear of Death" from "Don't want to torture living beings" - I would have no problem if one of the dachshunds kill it. Since when is Rattex nature-

I am quite surprised there is this much apathy towards animals and poison

Use rattex. It will look for water so will go outside to die.
Or it will find some wall cavity to fall into and slowly decompose.

Old fashioned rat trap. Snap it's neck.

I had a dilemma with rats a while ago. Tried poison, tried almost everything. What really worked was a couple of plain old rat traps baited with 1/2 a dried peach. It's sticky and tough, so the rat really has to pull to get it off. Also, the aroma of the peach is very strong and I think this helped to attract the rats.

They ate the sticky paper that was supposed to humanely trap them.

Sticky paper is not a humane way of trapping a rat. It is just as cruel, if not worse than poison. A tiny, furry animal struggling to get free from really strong glue? Yeah, no.

I personally don`t mind killing rats humanely through poison,

Neither is poison humane. Poison basically burns away at their intestines until they die, which can take days.

Either way, glad to see some people are humane enough to actually care about not letting the rat suffer. It's fine if whatever method you're using kills them instantly, but I really hate when people use inhumane methods like glue traps or poison. Kudos to you, DrewChan.

Use glue paper to trap rat, shave hair off rat, donate rat to hungry children
Burning out intestines is painful? I wouldn`t know I`ve never had my intestines burnt out..
but Isn`t poison instant like aresinic?

Don't poison the rat(s). They'll be thankful and may decide not to spread typhus, bubonic plague or the hantavirus.

You gotta fix that rat, that's what you gotta do. You gotta fix that rat.

Rattex is one of the cruelest things you can do.It is basically a blood-thinner (Warfarin), mixed into a really nice tasting pellet. The rats die in agony, from internal bleeding. And apart from killing rats.....the secondary result is quite often fatal for cats, owls, other small predators, as a dying rat is often easy prey - one of the side effects is insatiable thirst, so they are often caught while approaching water sources - and Warfarin has a long enough effect to be accumulated in the predators, and to cause them an agonising death as well.Hopefully, people reading this site care about not only their own animals, but urban wildlife as well. Rather than Rattex, use a humane rat-trap, where the rat is lured into a cage by food, and can then be released elsewhere or humanely killed. If you are not comfortable with this, use rat traps that kill the animal instantly by breaking its neck. Any kind of poisons or trapping via 'sticky paper' are incredibly cruel, not only to the rat, but also to the environment

Good luck getting that rat off the glue trap. I volunteered for a bit at an animal shelter when I was young and about once a week/every two weeks, someone would come in with a little critter stuck to a glue trap. Sometimes it would be gruesome, sometimes not, but it was always the same reason. They put out a gluetrap and now they're too pu**y to deal with the critter themselves and expect us to do something about it. Rats or mice with parts of their skin torn off during their struggles to get free were not uncommon. I also remember this one rat, he didn't get his face stuck to the glue trap and he chewed off his own foot in an attempt to get free.

It's certainly one of the least humane ways of trying to get rid of rats, especially as quite frequently people will forget about the traps and the poor animal will lay there thirsty and starving for days before someone comes across it.
