CBI Astute plug

@SauRoNZA Something else I forgot to ask - does it keep history of consumption where you can see how much power was used at certain times?

The Shelly has a cool graph to see consumption at different times. My CBI geyser and smart plug I bought the other day (both on Tuya) have different ways of displaying info - no consistency, but I suspect a part of the reason is different hardware & white labelling

I guess the key question is whether you'll be running HA or not. If yes, then the app functionality becomes irrelevant.

is this on the lastest firmware verson of the CBI App? recently bought and installed one for my geysers but can't get it to remember it's last state. i've had to resort to running an automation in the app that switches it back on once the power is back.

There are two versions of the Astute Smart Controller. The newer one has the option to remember the last state.

Have never used the CBI App, this is the original Tuya Smart app.

But sounds like you bought old stock of the ASC because the first versions didn’t have this function.

As the others say, it’s old hardware. I’ve emailed, Facebooked and moaned on their forum . I really think they could have handled it better.

But anyway - you couldn’t be getting that old stock in 2023 ? That’s the latest FW on the old unit

yeap, just confirmed. i am running the old stock.

bought it from my local Builders in Sunninghill little over 2weeks ago. wish i had searched a little harder to discover that there were differences.

That makes me super weary of buying another, if old stock is still floating around .

Hi Dolby,

Thank you for raising this and sorry that CBI has disappointed you in this regard, CBI never planned to have the return to on state due to worries of safety and being a circuit breaker manufacturer we believe it is off, it must stay off till someone can safely switch it back on, but CBI listened to the customers that asked for the Return to state which was implemented and a decision was made to keep pricing the same.

Change was introduced into the market around June/ July 2021

The name was kept the same as the old version without the Power on Sate would be phased out and only have the power on state in the market going forward, CBI also wanted to keep the pricing the same and not charge more.

From my uses of the device i do not personally like the power on state for a few reasons, if this is activated and i am away and forget to deactivate it and only turn my timer settings off, if there is power outage the device will switch on while i am not there, secondly why i do not use the return to state is if the power comes on after a outage and it comes on during its normal off cycle it will stay on till the next time it needs to switch off, but this is just my personal experience and why I have stopped using the return to on state.

However saying that all the ASP devices have a return to state and that is important to me as i have this on my fridge which i want to always be on, and if outage it will return to On.

The blisterpack photo on the left is “copied & pasted” from past postings on another forum in October 2020 / March 2021 whereas on the right is a photo taken at Builders Express yesterday - comparing the photos it is apparent these are two different “models” … “buyers be aware”

@SauRoNZA changing from a standard single wall socket like the below to Astute which has two sockets - I'm guessing I'd need to buy a splitter or something ?

Just as an aside, I've got 5 of the CBI smart plugs I want to sell (3 of the 5 are still in their packaging and unopened). They're all 3 weeks old, just not for me. If you're maybe keen, let me know

I was at Builders in Pinetown, KZN today and this store still has store of the old model and the new model on their shelves with a R20.00 difference in price ie R539 for the new model and R550 for the old model.
