CCIE Security study group

Passed my CCNA last week, I took the separate route (ICND1 + 2). I found the 1st exam a lot harder than the 2nd. Maybe because i had a lot more hands on experience before i took the 2nd exam. At the end though I'm glad I passed and am excited to carry on my Cisco path. I would love to be involved with a study group even though I'm not on the CCIE level yet.

congrats!
The CCNA is actually one of the hardest cisco exams, so well done!

What?
I got 98% on a CCNA exam with no training, a day of self study and some work experience. Exam took me 15 minutes.
Unless things have changed a LOT?

I call braindumper! ;-)
Just kidding mate. When did you do your CCNA? Over the last couple of exam revisions it has changed a lot.

I think the reason people might find it hard is because of the introduction to the Cisco way of doing things. If you look at where the exam is pegged, i.e. at an entry-level, no experience network person, it can be daunting.

At the professional and expert levels, I must admit, I also found it a lot easier to digest than the CCNA-level stuff (in relevant terms) when I first got started.

2001...
I was running a network of cat5000s and 2900 routers before that and also a couple of pixes so I had a working knowledge of most of it. The self study was a couple of trial exams to find if there were any gaps :)

15 minutes for the exam? There is absolutely no chance of you doing it in 15 minutes.
Thats 6 questions a minute, 10 seconds per question.

Some of the questions and simulations take longer to just read than that.

To hit 15 minutes, which with braindumping is still a bit of a push, you would have had to know the answers without looking at the questions.

As srothman said, to go from nothing to CCNA is quite a jump.
Especially now, that they cram all technologies into the courseware. It can be quite daunting.
On a difficulty and time based level, it was the only exam I struggled with so far.

What is this brain dumping btw?

Well that's what it took :)

I work fast.

OK, first a correction my side. I recalled the ccna having more questions. Seems it is less.
Which makes you doing a question every 20 seconds.
Still,
Router sims, testlest questions and simlets all take well over 2 or 3 minutes just to read / draw out and understand the requirements.
You will get between 4 - 8 of those questions.
That is almost all of your time on just a portion of the questions.

Sorry man, i just dont believe that you did the ccna exam in 15 minutes, with no book preparation without using a brain dump no matter how fast you work.

What is this brain dumping btw?

sure...

Anyways, i dont really care.
The thread is a little derailed now.

I personally still think someone passing the CCNA exam without dumping has done quite an achievement.
I also found that the CCNA exam was one of the toughest written exams they have.
We dont have to agree on that, and thats cool.

Well then things have changed - my exam was an online multiple choice thing, administered in a controlled facility by Sylvan Prometric. No writing involved.

the retired 640-801 had the simlets, router simulations, drag and drop etc in it as well. It wasnt just multiple choice.

Find a dump of the 640-802 (which is almost retired) exam and check out the questions. See if you feel that its straight forward and passable with 98% without reading a book.

I'll see if I have an old cv with the cert number on it, shall I? It lapsed in 2003 :-P

*edit* nope, no such luck. They all just say CCNA (tm) certified.

Studying on a saturday night and im feeling sorry for myself!

Does make me feel better, in a bastard kind of way, knowing others (like Rishalin) are probably doing the same at the moment.

Stay strong to all the guys grinding through whatever exams they may be doing. Think of the end goal, and in my case, i think of how i have to pass, because my home life is starting to suffer from this stupid exam!

It will pay off, I'm sure! I spent some time earlier working through some of the workbooks for the DC track, and trying to figure out who I need to send a strongly-worded e-mail to get them to bring a DC Mobile Lab to SA.
