hey dudes

anyway i started with my CCNA however managed to find the CBT nuggets online and diverted away from my books ( seems way better as there is a lot of explanations etc)

how do i go about creating a virtual lab ? do i use GNS3 ? anyone used it ? thing is where would i find the IOS files ? free obiously

get cisco packet tracer steal it if you have to ;-) , i used GNS3 for abit not a very awesome experinse , i dont think you would be able to legaly get an IOS image unless you have a cisco router
 
You can get PT, even if you are not a Network Academy student, easier than finding an IOS image, which isn't free, not legally at least.

Why not try scratching around here in these boards -- actually only a couple of threads back
HINT -- search for CISCO
Do they no longer teach at school -- how to help yourself ????
 
I would recommend going back to the books perhaps the one by Wendall Odem ...then to switch to Jeremy`s CBT Nuggets..
as the nuggets tend to make one lasy ...I have to second the comments of the other guys that advised you to use Packet tracer...
Like Jeremy says one has to repeatedly watch the videos so I would recommend watching it a few times however try recreating
the network scenarios covered in the videos in Packet tracer...All the best for the exam
 
dudes i need help here hey tried tonight to learn cant get it i understand the whole concept but could somone give me a ring and i can chat to who has done thins before

I find dynamips/gns3 about as good as it gets.
It takes a little bit more work to get going (not much though), but i feel its an excellent experience for a software lab environment

Agreed, some info might be useful.
You understand the whole concept, but cant get it? I have no clue what that means, I am more than happy to help, but there has been a large amount of CCNA threads on here. I am almost certain that most of the info you require are stored in there.
The fact that you hardly bothered to research or read around does not bode well....
If you have specific issues with a lab setup or something, I agree, post and see who can help. But you gotta help yourself first, if you struggle with something and figure it out, you tend to remember it a lot longer than if someone gives you the answers

You clearly havent used PT :P , it was awhile ago but i rember running just one router sim in GNS3 made my pc lag :P where in PT you can run like 30 if you wanted to, and for CCNA level there is no limitation on what you can do in PT

You did not set ur Idle pc values then. I have multiple routers with a few asa's thrown in for good measure. No issues
 
you dudes are right ... let me help myself and search besides i know you dudes would be more than willing to help if i got stuck somewhere :) take care dudes

Actually there are quite a few the last time I tried it. On OSPF, you can't do manual summarisation, load balancing doesn't work, debugging OSPF packets doesn't work etc. There were other issues on EIGRP and something else as well, can't remember. But yeah, GNS3 is definitely better.
