CCTV System

If you are installing these in a large area you might not be so happy as the resolution on these isnt huge..

I recently installed a similar set of cameras and they only work well in tight areas like corridors where the faces of people fill about 1/6th of the frame.

We now use IP cameras which are pricey but support full hd video. The only downside is you need to have a network set up and have an available network share for the video..

I have no idea where to post this but am looking to buy a CCTV system but not sure which 1's to go for main concern is how good are the camera's here is a link to the system I am interested in.

For about R5000 you can get a 16 channel DVR with 8 cameras from Esquire.
Not bad at all, only 420 tv line cameras but the dvr and the cameras are pretty good quality so pics are not bad at all.
They actually kick the ass of some of my 500tvl cameras from security warehouse.

Need to add some hard drives to it though (not sure if the B0B system comes with hard drives).

I like the Kview units from esquire, good bang for buck, night vision is meh though, but wouldn't expect miracles with those specs

Depends on the camera.
Some of the cameras I got from them are really awesome for night vision.

Then again, huge areas the only real solution is starlight cameras.

I mean the one included in the sets ;)

go check out space tv
those DIY kits are no good

Depends on what you need it for. Running a cheapish Chinese DIY kit at my home and works perfectly. Can see exactly who is at my gate and who is walking around the yard. For night you can see quite well, not faces perfect but good to see what is going on, but add a motion sensor light and the pictures are crisp clear

fair enough.

Listen, I dont mean to be funny, but the Esquire CCTV side is fsking useless.
I bought siamese cable from them as well as bnc's. The core of the cable was too thick to fit into the bnc's. Was a huge fsk up :/
The DVR was the wrong thing and when they eventually brought the right thing it was so crap I stuck it in a box and replaced it with a DVR from inhep.
The camera's were good.

Stay away from the Casey DVR's is all I can say.

You need to buy the right fittings for RG-59 (RG 58 is not the same).
I prefer the RG 59 as it's hardier and much better picture quality.

Thanx for the replies guys, We looking to install a camera on our garage wall facing the driveway then a camera positioned on a tree or going to make a place for it to stand so it has a wide area looking down on my daughters flat the other camera's will be positioned around the outside of the house at certain points.

don't expect to be able to recognize faces from those wide area's. for that you need HD IP camera's. Ideally HD tracking PTZ camera's. About R30k at entry level.

HD-SDI based CCTV systems can give you HD quality views without paying IP camera pricing

Hi Andy what you looking at for a system like that? Budget is between R6000-R9000

KGUARD COMBO 16 Channel DVR 8x cameras along with 30 meters of cable per camera + 16 channel DVR + power supplies for cameras from esquire is R4999 (excl).
Get a single 2TB drive for now (you can put 2 of these into the machine), about R1000
Get that along with one or two of their better quality outdoor IR cameras (About R400 to R600 ea) (I can read numberplate’s with their outdoor cameras from about 6 meters away) then plan where to put them.
Entrance/access cameras close as you can so you get faces.
Other cameras so that you can get a good overview of areas you want to monitor.

About as good as it's going to get for your budget.

What would you recommend to put on this system for about 30metres outdoor.?

Not sure I understand what you are asking.

What camera?
Ask them for price on their IDS 600TVL Outdoor IR range.
(Zoom/focus and IR up to about 30 meters).

420TVL is just piss poor .

"Customize the resolution and frame rate with options including CIF real-time recording (30fps per channel, 120fps total) and impressive playback resolution of 352 x 240 pixels."

Piss poor all round.
