Hi All,

Who has a CCTV setup at home , if you do are you happy with the features and performance and quality of the camera's ?
I am looking for recommendations based on user experience hence my question. Also looking at options for a decent camera that captures sound. From what i've seen thus far too many cheapies out there that don't give you the results.

TIA

Bought 3 Hikvision IP cams from pc-direct.co.za
Have them hooked up to a small NAS to store the last few days of recordings.

What's your budget? CCTV can range from quite cheap to incredibly expensive.

Below is the camera that came with my KGuard HD 16+8 cam system:

And here is the HiLook Outdoor Bullet Type High Quality 1080P 4in1 2MP I added later, that are going for R300 incl VAT:

The only difference I can see so far is the colours are slightly more faded.

Note the above screenshots are from the app on my tablet and are the substream quality. At home I can post the screenshots from my browser.

Looks like an expensive exercise to do IP cams . The IP ones at Esquire are like R1599.

I want to put at least 3 on the pole at the back wall to overlook the veld at the back and another 3 on a pole at the front wall to overlook the sidewalk and street, an easy R9000 just for the cams.

My 2 DVRs and their HD analogue cameras (19 cams in total) cost about R12 000 altogether.

So... an NVR is really not necessary, but what can one use to display all screens at the same time?

On my Hikvision, I have to log in to a browser to view one camera. On the other hand, I have the HikVision app on my phone and I guess that is where I can view all streams.

I am running this at home at the moment, just the two cameras for now outside the property to monitor our garage and pedestrian entrance's...

1 x HIKVision DS-7616NI-K2/16P NVR
2 x HIKVision SE-DS-2CD2055FWD-I Cameras (4mm fixed length)
1 x WD 4TB 3.5" SATA3 6.0Gbps Surveillance HDD - Purple
2 x Linkbasic 100M Shielded UV Protected Cat5e Cable
50 x Linkbasic RJ45 Cat5e UTP Modular Plug
50 x Linkbasic Black Boots RJ45

On my browser I log into my DVR and I can see all the cams. On the KGuard HD one which also supports 8 IP cams, (and 16 analogue) it will just show those IP cams with the others.

What are y'alls addresses? I'm interested in impressive systems like yours' and would like to take a look. I don't want to inconvenience you guys though, I'll pop by when nobody is home.

Try find my house, I'll keep an eye on my cameras, send me a PM when you think you are outside and I will tell you whether you are hot or cold.

Sure thing, Do I need to disable the electric fencing, disable the motor gate lock (since it can't be lifted), lock the dogs away at the back and leave a security door open too?

anyone can recommend someone in CPT
I need cameras that will only record when there is motion

and also it should record to a SD card if possible

budget around 3-4k for 3-4 cameras
