CDPR hackers put Cyberpunk 2077 and Witcher 3 source code up for auction

The hackers behind an attack on Cyberpunk 2077 developer CD Projekt Red have allegedly started auctioning off the source code for several of the company’s games, BleepingComputer has reported.

The auction comes after CD Projekt yesterday revealed that it was the victim of a ransomware attack which compromised some of its internal systems.

“An unidentified actor gained unauthorised access to our internal network, collected certain data belonging to CD Projekt capital group, and left a ransom note,” the developer stated.

If people really wanted this IP there would be an arms race for these game developers, but there isn’t.

Can't imagine why anyone would want to buy it. Would only be affordable by big gaming companies, and if they bought it and used one line of code they would be sued.

Yep. Reminds me of when someone from Coca Cola tried to sell a recipe of something to Pepsi. Pepsi called her bosses and the FBI on the employee.
Companies wouldn't want to open themselves up to this level of liability.

Chinese and Russian types might be willing to swindle these hackers out of it. They have less scruples.

Best course of action for CD Projekt would be to release it themselves.
I hope they do that. It could be fun.

**** those thieves.

CDPR's immediate concern would be GWENT as the source code may expose vulnerabilities. Then the documentation, internal admin leaked to the public can cause a PR nightmare which can sink the trust in your organisation within a day especially where allegation may arise which you have heartily opposed.

The other source codes aren't that compromising. I believe that CDPR is at a point to upgrade REDEngine or move to a new engine.

What is there to lose with The Witcher 3 and the Cyberpunk 2077 source code in the wild? GWENT is a live service title.
