In my primary school classroom we still use 3GHz celerons. We bought them 3 years ago and all the kids do on them is MS Office and various other low grahical intensity educational games. Perfect for the price. Celerons will always have a niche.

For 1999 I would take it, Celeron or no Celeron. The Celeron has its place; if you only need to do basic work, and need a low price, then buy a Celeron....

Doesn't the Celeron have a bad name because of the initial ones - and newer is alright?

About 4 or 5 years back I bought a Celeron 2.0ghz as my media machine and it was pretty slow - not that I really minded.

About 18 months ago I needed a new media machine and bought a Celeron D 1.6ghz which - surprisingly - was quite nippy and a machine I could live with on a day to day basis.

In fact my brother bought a Celeron D 1.8ghz the following week for mail, browsing the net and general items and never complained
