Any news on Cell C 3G? I did a network selection at a client with a HSDPA vodacom card and I saw that Cell C 3G available? However I havent had a chance to test it yet.

Any news or anyone else make a connection?

what area where you in when you picked up the signal???

Cell C did say in a press release that they will be offering 3G services by the end of the year... Don't know if that includes HSDPA, but we'll see..

3g & Hsdpa

Cell C will be launching there data cards on the 20 may it will support all connection types. 3G and HSDPA will follow very soon after and both will be launched at the same time.

Probably be a piggy-back off of Vodacom's network like much of their voice network.

No piggy this time!

Cell C won't be using Vodacom's 3G base stations as Vodacom does not even have full coverage of that service.

Cell C does have a few UMTS/HSDPA base stations already in big area's such as Cape Town, Durban, Martizburg, Pretoria & Joburg. All the base stations that are up will become active in one go. Then from there just like MTN & Vodacom, Base station to Base station. Also 80% of all Cell C's call's are carried on there own Base stations and almost every Base station that Cell C has is EDGE enabled. Unlike Vodacom in KZN & Gauteng Because vodacom's network in those area's are to old for the EDGE upgrade.

Wow, Cell C must be going BIG on the 3G/HSDPA thing if they consider Vodacom's 1600 (and counting) 3G/HSDPA base stations to be marginal coverage.

Vodacom claims a near 40% EDGE coverage and rolling out fast.

What is the current Cell C GPRS, EDGE, 3G and HSDPA coverage in % and number of base stations?

Vodacom is 98% GPRS, 40% EDGE, 16% 3G and 16% HSDPA. (Figures published last week)

Wimax

they are not already cheapest within there network R1.50 peak 75c off-peak Cell C to Cell C

So that means no 3G/HSDPA for Cell C and VM ever?

"Hedberg noted that the company currently does not have plans to enter the 3G/HSDPA market."
He added that CellC simply don’t have the resources to invest in new technologies currently.

“We are not here to be the leader in new technologies,” said Hedberg.

It's sooooooo sad.

No. Just a different approach. Just like Pep store is not aspiring to Paris fashion standards.
