Cell C’s empty mobile broadband promises

HSPA+ is coming sooner then you guys think. It might not be in all area at first but it will be lauched by 1st June.

But how much will it cost??!! That is the big thing. I just don't care about 21 mb/s. I want cheaper pricing!

Thats what no one is sure about, I hope Cell C is very aggressive with the pricing, starting at least 50c per mb. The data packages that we can actual use.

It only makes sense to launch it before the world cup.

uhm ZTE is doing the whole acquiring of staff + training thing. I know this because they were advertising for placements and a friend of mine works there now :) Don't underestimate age.. but experience wise sure, their Sa counterparts are likely recent graduates training up from msc's or better.

It may not be hot air but I sense many delays ... many ... many delays!!

Agreed. I suspect that their LTE contract is not working out as hoped (to be polite), and they are learning the hard way that there's more to a 3G network than just buying some basestations. Quite apart from getting high sites, there are real challenges in providing enough backhaul etc.

Trust me they are working Fast and furious. and its not just ZTE that is working on this. there are other largish companies involved. the ZTE guys are pretty cool. Im not sure about other metro areas but KZN is getting quite nice coverage. and i think thats all i am allowed to say on the matter.

What? Did they announce the other vendors?

ZTE staff are bright but they don't develop local staff nearly enough - doesn't help when you have to upscale nationally and you are having problems like your local HR person leaving you.

However if Cell C doesn't have plans to share, it's surely more a lack of strategy than progress on 3G rollout, normally followed by "can't tell you our plans, they're confidential" ...

I wouldn't hold my breath for a June release, I'd say it'll happen only after August, but maybe I'm just pessimistic like that.. But I do believe it's going to happen.
