Cell C 3G

According to a sales rep at our local CellC store they are still waiting for stock of the new modems to arrive. No date has been given.
We have also experienced intermittent signal drops, and according to the same rep the network was undergoing tests, and that a problem had surfaced.
How true or accurate this is, is anyones guess.

160 stores each store will be limited to probably 100 for launch ) u looking at 16000 units for launch special :p

If this true, lot of people will be disappointed. I will be one of them if i dont get one. I think 16000 will be sold out in few hours.

Ok you peeps remember the day when CellC launched first day. Give R50 and get R150 airtime only on day of launch only and subject to the first 500 in each store if I remember correctly

Probably it will just be a launch day special probably and maybe 16000 units or more.

I am guessing here but you never know...
If I knew something you didn't know I would probably not tell you..

Happy Hunting like TopTv launch day special :)

I just called a few Cell C Stores in Johannesburg they don't have 3G modems but they seemed to think they would have them within the next two weeks. Of course Johannesburg isn't supposed to be one of the initial 3G launch areas...

Does anyone know where the units can be bought when available? Will there be a limited amount released or will it be a full blown release?

Went to the Cell C in Eastgate today. Asked around. They knew what I was talking about, for sure, but had no stock or any idea of when stock would be available. Maybe they been sworn to secrecy...

20th is almost over and still no 3G in Cape Town. Cell C can ... my ... now

I just got a friends Huawei K3715 and am picking up cellc 3g with it :D

I can't pick it up with my e272 and my phone does not tell my if the networks I pick up is 3g or gprs. So now I just have to wait for stock to get to the stores so I can see how their network holds up.

edit:
This is close to the Cape Gate center

my e272 freaks out with cellc sim card, it seems to see 3g network but if try to connect at edge or 3g it just error at opening port. Im using mobile data app on the forums to check what signal it gets, though my modem flickers a green light meaning edge or gprs so not sure.

no 3g on cellphone for me neither.

Are you (last two) guys able to lock your modems to cell C? That's to ensure that you are not inadvertently roaming onto Vodacom. My phone (with Cell C SIM card) will often show connected on 3G, but that's a Vodacom tower. If I try to make a call like that, it will say 'Network unavailable'. It appears that Vodacom have disabled 3G Cell C roaming for voice as well as data, but they don't/can't prevent devices from THINKING that they're connected. This has long been the case, and it's got nothing to do with Cell C 3G.

If I lock my phone to Cell C and also to UMTS, I get no connection at all. I am also in Cape Town. My phone is capable of 900Mhz 3G, but I'm not sure whether Nokia calls that GSM or UMTS.

I am able to pick up a cellc 3G signal in Cape Town but can't register on it

I just got a call from a lady from cell C for the query i logged with telltrevor.co.za.
If whatever the lady said is to be believed then the service will only be launched in 2 months time.
But i dont believe her. I think they are playing safe in case if something goes wrong in testing.

The name of the game is to build up hype and expectation--such that there is a strong "demand" for it (even though remember we have no choice in this country; we will still get screwed either way).
