Cell C '4Gs' and gaming

another recommendation right here! it's weird to be the one judging the guys i play fifa with for the lag their side. it's a very stable connection as well - i've downloaded about 10gb worth of demos, add-on content etc. and have not been disconnected once. this is on xbox 360 and ps3. just a quick note - demos for the same games are usually smaller on xbox - for example the vanquish demo was +-500mb on xbox and 1.5gb on ps3. your downloads also keep going when you play games on xbox whereas on ps3 it pauses it as soon as you go into a game. 1gb takes roughly an hour to download to where i stay.

Well the guy confirms he is getting great signal and HSPA+ on the 21mbps modem. His latency to local sites are a constant 50-60ms so there are no lag spikes at all. I see no packet loss on his ping results either. He has even tried to tweak the MTU and has basically tried everything he can think of.

Yet he keeps lagging everyone else up on Starcraft2? There are constant stops with his name appearing as "waiting for...". He says it is worse on a 3v3 and up. Not sure what else it could be?

I want to get this CellC thing for myself and cancel ADSL once it becomes available in JoBurg but if I struggle like that it would be a total fail :/ don't have moola to throw around lol.

I'm in the same boat so to speak. I'm hoping that Cell C's HSPA+ can provide me with a reliable latency < 50ms so that I can stop moaning in QL games and just totally ditch Telkom ADSL.

Wireless not gonna be a good replacement for adsl even if its HSPA+

Remember the network does not have the numbers that vodafail and MTN have on at any given time and if cell c numbers grow than gaming might be slowed down.

Did your friend try other games? What i would suggest is your friend get FRAPS to check his fps while playing. If his fps remains constant when he lagging than its his connection but if it drops low than its his PC. unsure if starcraft has a built in feature via console commands to view fps.

Please try the fps troubleshooting and than let us know. Hope this helps.

And what are the specs of his pc setup?

Yep thats me :)

Will get him to check his FPS although I know he bought a rig 100% exactly the same as another mate who plays SC2 often on DSL with us and has no problems.

So I have purchased a couple of accounts. I have the Huwaei 7.2mbs 4 port switchy adsl modem looking thing, the white 7.2mbps dongle and the 21mbps black dongle.

Im just waiting 48 hours for sim activation and then I will be testing HON and WOW with it. I gave several of my techies the white 7.2mbps dongles to test Black Ops on. Will post speed tests and show in game ping results as soon as the sims are activated.

One of the techies also has an xbox and PS3, so will let you know what I hear about consoles.

Hey guys, anyone in the vereeniging, three rivers area? I dont have a land line and have been using my blackberry as my modem to play online. MOH and COD works great but is taxing my account. (bleeding gaming addictions) So I am very interested in seeing if the coverage goes that far. Any help would be appreciated. Cant find their coverage map online.

R300pm is a bargain for 5G from a cellular provider when there is no other option. Well, I could buy a house, lol.

Okay, using their network now.

Some traceroute results. The one to my wow server gets filtered when it hits london though, and the IP does not respond to ICMP pings.

I wonder if Viper25 knows this page is linked to from the CellC website which is quoting him :P
