Cell C and BlackBerry

Excellant, but what SMS how do we activate.

Edit: Ok found out some more you can activate the service by dialing *147# choose option 7 and follow the rabbit down the hole.

It apparently costs R57 per month for BIS ; and works on prepaid or contract.
On prepaid it deducts R57 from your balance, still trying to figure out what it will do on Control Chat does it also deduct from your balance...
Yep - Also deducts from your airtime

•Unlimited data usage on the BlackBerry handset*, including: social networking (e.g. Facebook, BlackBerry Messenger, Twitter), sending and receiving emails, and web browsing.
•Pre -determined applications (Facebook, Yahoo Messenger, Google Talk, BB Messenger, Windows Live Messenger and the BB Application Centre) will be sent to the customer's handset upon service activation
•Subscribers can add up to 10 personal email addresses for existing, supported email accounts that use IMAP4 and POP3 protocols (Yahoo, hotmail , Google and AOL accounts are supported
•Ability to view email attachments less than 3MB

*Data usage through the internet will be billable at current data rates for example, video streaming, off device browsing and using the BlackBerry handset as a modem.

According to the CellC website the BIS will cost R57-00 per month. This is suppsed to include unlimited internet browsing on the BB device.
However, when reading the fineprint behind the asterisk, it seems that data usage will be billed seperately.
Can someone explain how that will work?

The highlighted part explains it all.
As long as you browse through the BB browser, don't use the phone as a modem and don't stream videos you will not be charged extra.

eg. All downloading and browsing done through the BB interfaces/apps are free on BIS.

Basically make sure you set the APN on the device to blackberry.net ; this will ensure that any application you load on the device makes use of the unlimited usage deal.

If you tether your device to a PC then you will be billed.

Let me direct anyone who wants to know anything about BIS to the Blackberry subforum (under cellphones). BIS works the same on all networks for detailed information on what is free and what isn't please see the 'BIS is it really free' sticky in those forums.

Hi guys. I am curious....what Nav software did you guys get with your Blackberries on Cell C. Vodacom clients get Vodafone SatNav....what do you guys use?

ok....took it the initiative and phone Cell C Direct. They say they dont supply any Navigation software with their GPS enabled Blackberries....so guess you will have to do without the GPS functionality or purchase Garmap for Mobile and pay for it. Interesting.

Google Maps is generlly more accurate than Garmap I've found, but it lacks voice guided navigation.

That is very important though. Also, blackberry maps on my blackberry does not actually do navigation I think. It just shows your instuctions dont it? I saw Google has enabled Voice guided nav on Android. I hope they port it to Blackberry also. Looks very nice and its free!

Google hasn't enabled it for south africa, I don't have voice navigation on my Galaxy. Blackberry Maps works the same as Goggle Maps but without cool stuff like street view.
