I have two data sims on contract - one Telkom and one Cell C. Each sits in its own Wifi device and I flip between the two on both my laptop and my cellphone when I'm at home. Over the past few days, the Cell C sim has been giving me issues. Every time I try to connect to the Wifi device that holds the sim card, I get a message that I need to "log in to this network" before I can access the Internet. I open the network login page, (192.xxx.x.x) and it shows me Cell C - disconnected.

I haven't changed any settings. I get the same issue when my mobile phone tries to connect to that Wifi device - it wants me to log into the network. I swopped my two sim cards between the two Wifi devices, and that didn't help. I just get the same issue when trying to connect to the other device that I've moved the Cell C sim card to. The sim card that sits in my mobile phone is also Cell C, and when I turn mobile data on on my cellphone, it connects no problem. So clearly there is Cell C signal here. I have checked my balance and I have loads of data on the Cell C sim that's giving the problem.

As I say, I have made no changes to any settings. The problem has just started cropping up over the past few days. Hoping the clever folk here can help.

There is a nation wide problem with cellc fixed LTE.

Normal LTE works fine / spotty. But it works.

What is the difference between fixed and normal LTE? And how come the problem occurs when the sim card is in an old modem that doesn't support LTE, according to my understanding? Thanks.

Fixed - meaning its only meant for a certain signal (LTE only) so its either LTE or nothing.

normal LTE can bounce back to 3g and still work.

Ah, ok. So let me see if I understand this correctly:

My sim card would either be a fixed-LTE sim card, or a normal-LTE sim card. If it's a fixed-LTE sim card, then it can only receive an LTE signal from Cell C. If it's a normal-LTE sim card, then it can receive any signal from Cell C, whether that be LTE, 4G, 3G, etc?

And if the above is correct, what would be the advantage of having a fixed-LTE sim card? As I see it at the moment, it's bloody useless to me.

Well, mine suddenly stopped working. Shows me "Incorrect SIM." It is, however, not a data sim. Right now I have no network and I can't be contacted on that line.

Fixed wireless customers unable to connect needs to check coverage on the Cell C map for fixed wireless.

A lot of people who was connecting can no longer connect as Cell C has stopped roaming for fixed wireless customers on the MTN network as it is too costly. This is why you will have no service.

They will also not investigate this as an issue because if there is no coverage there is no coverage.

Can someone please explain this: I put the data sim into my phone and turned on mobile data. I got the "4G" indicator and internet was working. I then turned on mobile hotspot and connected my computer to my phone. Internet was working. So I took the sim card out and put it back into the wifi modem - now I have Internet access! I am sitting in the same spot in my home, I have changed no settings whatsoever.

To existing and new clients of Cell C LTE A/Fixed watch out as Cell C / Internet Solutions network coverage collapsed/restricted/ due to MTN cellphone tower roaming contract terminated/cancelled between Cell C and MTN on the 14th December 2018 causing/affecting Cell C LTE A/Fixed coverage to decline more then 70%, meaning that existing clients of Cell C in that declined affected areas to lost network coverage ( other words - no LTE Internet coverage/access) and Cell C still aspect the clients to pay with no LTE Internet access. Most re-sellers being to be affected is Internet Solutions, AfriHost, @Lantic, Axxess...... and the list goes on. Only response what get from my upstream provider is ............. nothing.

Nope, doesn't apply to me. I've checked the map and I'm covered for Fixed-LTE. Also, as I explained in a previous post, the problem has miraculously gone away, after I put the sim card in my mobile phone and hotspotted it to my computer, then put the simcard back into the modem. It's been working fine for two days now.
