Cell C dodges sanctions

Cell C has sidestepped advertising sanctions, asked for by MTN, after it was on the wrong side of two ASA rulings
 
MTN's ridiculous pricing should be sanctioned in my opinion.

Oh and their outright misuse of the word MAHALA,they dont give anything for mahala its all charged for by their higher than normal rates.
 
I say it again, if it weren't for the Mobile Operators, the ASA would be twiddling its thumbs.
 
Some antiquated laws, I'd love to see abolished.
What could be a better sport than to watch companies wage war in their adverts; some good 'clean' fun, don't you think...?

Absolutely. Let them fight it out in the public domain however they wish. Allow the consumers to dictate how they move in the advertising space...

And the first time a company flights an ad you think is false, what do you do then?
 
Wait for the other MNO's to flight "anti-ads" to show up the false ad! Could be fun ... for the informed.
Unfortunately it will get dirty very quickly with outright lies.

Even with competitive advertising, there still needs to be a set of rules and standards. And a body like the ASA to define and enforce them.

As per usual, the bunch making uninformed statements on this topic have not bothered to read the ASA guidelines and how they apply them. Seems they base their views on the warped idea that the company they support must b allowed to post ads in breach of the code but not those they don't support. Fanboys much?

I'm not advocating lawlessness in the field. The ASA will still need regulations to ensure that the public are protected from false advertising, but I love me a good 'ol showdown. It has for decades bred creativity in advertising and I believe our restrictions are too limiting in terms of comparative advertising. I can see how mobile operators might struggle with comparative advertising though - as it is people can't make heads or tails of the plethora of packages...:D

Crap... There is far less ASA type control in the US around advertising; competitors regularly slate each other in adverts.
