Cell C gears up for number portability

If they are complaining about money now I do not think they realise the cost of Wimax.

As long as they are dependant on Vodacom they are in trouble.

A partner has a Cell-C contract phone. When the Vodacom Network is busy he gets a network busy error.

I was on Vodacom Prepaid and had the same crap. So we could not even exchange phones to make a quick call.

"Courtney said Cell C “intends for customers not to have to pay” for the porting proces" - mmm. We shall see. It is afterall a service that needs to be provided.
 
on cel-c i can't make my vpn connection work at all, and the 'helpdesk' staff dont even know what that is. mtn it work well.
 
Cellc are not dependant on vodacom. They only roam on vodacom networks in rural areas where it is not financially logical to deploy a base station. more than 80% of cellc traffic is routed through cellc infrastructure. In major cities, they run 100% of their own networks. Unless your friend manually changed the network to vodacom on his phone,he should not have any problems whatsoever when vodacom networks are busy.
(You are able to change your network manually since cellc has a roaming agreement with vodacom)
 
I think they need to do something about their advertising. It's even more annoying than Vodacom and MTN, which is quite a feat. I think Vodacom are edging ahead of MTN in the irritating stupidity of their advertising.
 
My domestic worker dropped her Cell-C pre-paid to go to MTN. Why? Because of terrible signal quality? Cell-C wake up! You need dependable infrastructure not the crap you dish out now!
 
I am with Cell-C and the number portability will mean I will be leaving them when my contract expires. Sorry guys but your amount of customers are going to continue to drop. Why? Cause your service sucks!

The MMS service is non-existent. I sent my wife an MMS which she never got but I was charged for. Where did it disappear to? And yes she can recieve them from MTN and Vodacom users.

Also one cant send MMS's overseas! I mean WTF! On enquiring why a Cell-C user cannot send an MMS to an overseas phone, the operator said, "Cell-C does not offer that service!"

And don't get me started on GPRS. It just doesn't work. "Service unavailable: Try again later!" is the standard message.

Oh well, good-bye Cell-C.
 
Yeah, I predict that CellC are going to loose a lot of customers because of data and MMS services. I mean, the BASIC SMS and talk services SHOULD be there already, now is the time to start and focus on newer technologies!
 
Got myself a vodacom sim today just to use GPRS/MMSes ebcause it's non existant on Cell C... I'm SOOO switching the 1st bloody day I can it's not funny. Cell C went down the toilet since they opened up their doors.... Wonder how this will affect Virgin too... Or maybe, it's Virgin affecting Cell C... Either way, buh bye crappy Cell C! I wish u all the best!
 
Cell C shouldn't expect a flood of users switching over without decent coverage and GPRS/3G/EDGE availability.

Depends where you live. I get fast EDGE and never have signal problems anywhere that I need to use my phone.

If it is cheaper to beef up the bandwidth they can carry via EDGE connections, then they're right not to sink money into 3G or HSDPA now. Their EDGE data services are already reliable. Perhaps they're sometimes overloaded, but the same problem is happening on MTN and Vodacom. In the years that I used Cell C pre-paid I never once had signal problems or dropped calls or a single SMS that did not arrive.
