I'm really happy with it so far, Cell c internet much more stable than it used to be since the rollout. I am even able to game on it now

The official response from CellC social media support:

"Please note that I have had the opportunity to discuss the matter with the agents from the networks department regarding the LTE coverage in the two requested areas (in Pretoria) and they have confirmed that at the present moment there isn’t any LTE coverage in PTA. It is however going to be rolled out but no specific date has been given."


So I guess we are picking up the trial installations which they are not yet ready to support officially. At first I also thought maybe its roaming on Vodacom 4G, but with my ZTE modem I can do a network scan and it explicitly lists each network and its supported tech (2G/3G/4G). It showed separate lines for Cell C 4G, Cell C 3G and Cell C 2G (and the same for MTN and Vodacom). Telkom only showed 2G and 3G as this modem model doesn't support telkom 4G.

Has anyone picked up CellC LTE in pretoria, or known when it might be up and running?

Media reports seemed to indicate pretoria is up next, but the current coverage map is limited to the JHB region.

I'm hoping you are using a mobile device with LTE, as I'd like to know if you have capable cell C LTE in Sinoville (Sentrum) area? Are data bundles more expensive for LTE versus H+?

Hi sorry, I missed this. No I am using the Huawei B315s-936 router. Bundles are not more expensive (I'm using a giga 100).

I saw my phone was on LTE when walking around in Centurion mall (Close to Dischem) also saw some LTE in Eersterust when I ran a race there this weekend. I have been with CellC for years, the last 2 years their network improved substantially. Love the fact that I can roam on Vodacom 3G.


The one spot where CellC is truly useless is in Heidelberg Gauteng, my phone gets hot and drains the battery but never manages to get any data through. These days those spots are few and far between. Maybe CellC could just replace the equipment there.
