Cell C mobile broadband launch postponed

Now if they would offer similar data pricing with an Android phone or iPhone, that would be even more incredible

i have a couple of questions about the service
(a) will the service be device locked ie can I put the sim in my e63 and put another sim (mtn say) in the cell-c dongles
(b) it looks as though the two different options amount to a using different capability dongles in order to provide two different levels of service for different customers. On the 999 service will I always be locked to 7.2 - this relates to (a) but goes a bit further.
(c) are CellC going to craft the service as an ADSL entrylevel replacement with shaping in a similar manner to Do Broadband, or are they going to simply make it you get the speed the tower allows.

Because the prepaid for a year looks amazing to me, but the inclusion of a dongle is making me worry that the service will be locked to those dongles.

o wow, you guys are so negative ???

since when has any project never had delays ? this is south africa, EVERYTHING is always delayed, i cant believe that you judge so harshly just because you have to wait a few weeks. the really funny part will be when you flaming f@ckers all jump to get cell c contracts when it does go live ...

wait and see what their product is and give it chance to be tested before you moan like children.

moving from edge to 21mbps and moving from sharing towers to implementing your own country wide is no easy task, no one said it would be a smooth and flawless transition and you are idiots for expecting it to be. in fact if there weren't any delays i would be suspicious.

i just cant get over how negative the crowd is here, you spoiling my aura, but then mybb has always attracted the attention of that sort of crowd.

i dont think you guys realise that no matter what the outcome or service from cell c, EVERYONE and i mean EVERYONE will gain from this. they will be forcing the competition to drop prices.

f@cking flaming morons ...

Some other relevant information:

Cell C is investing R5 billion in its new 900 MHz HSPA+ network, with another R2 billion spent on IT systems to support this network. Reichelt added that they are also planning to spend a few billion more next year on their network rollout.

Cell C currently has over 1300 HSPA+ 900 live transmitters, with a fibre backbone and IP access secured. Cell C is however not stopping here, and is planning to have 30% HSPA+ population coverage by the end of this year.

It took Vodacom nearly 5 years to reach 50% 3G population coverage using 2100 MHz

The dongles will have to be 900MHz HSDPA+ compliant. Most smartphones use 2100MHz WCDMA, so it'll take a while to get phones that use this frequency. Also, 900MHz has a bigger cell area than 2100MHz AFAIK, that means fewer towers to cover an area.

There are a number of phones out on the market that supports 900mhz 3G. Like the midrange Nokia C5

Problem with the bigger coverage area with 900mhz 3G is that fewer BTS required, but that means more people logged onto a single tower! More congestion?????

EDIT: See Budza beat me to it lol

I just got a call from a lady from cell C for the query i logged with telltrevor.co.za.
If whatever the lady said is to be believed then the service will only be launched in 2 months time.
But i dont believe her. I think they are playing safe in case if something goes wrong in testing.
But one positive thing is that i got response from telltrevor.co.za, they are serious about customer service.

How do you think this will impact on the lower-end data bundles currently available? ie. 100mb (for cellphone use purposes)

Good news for captownians. The cell c 3g service is going to be launched this week for them.
I got a call again from cell c now. They asked me about the area i am staying.
Joburg is last one to get the service. Somewhare in october but they dont have specific date as yet.
