Is it a Data Card or a Data USB Modem?

Its a HSDPA data card. Check out the web site.

Maybe they're planning an upgrade in future and want the cards to be compatible?

Went to Cell C office in Sandton, will have stock of the cards on friday +- R1800 on pre-paid. When i asked why they launching HSDPA cards so premature the manager just smiled.....?

There have been reports of 3G coverage coming on and off in midrandm area.....maybe they up to a xmas supprise!!!!

HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA... *gasp*

Yeah right. Even if this happens (no earlier than 2020 I'm sure), the service would suck so much, dial-up would seem like a dream. Come to think of it... dial-up IS a dream compared to cellc's 'high speed broadband EDGE' offering.

HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA... *choke, gasp*

Oh, whatever. Why oh why did I sign a contract with these guys? *cry*

Dont underestimate them......they are deffinatly up to something, they have sat back and let the other operators iron out all the teething problems.

Trust me....watch this space.

ps. my heart will always stay with VC (even though they dont have pre-paid data)

Is there anyone on the Forum using a cellc data card???

Yes I use a data card

The data card supports 3G and HSDPA , but note there will never be 3G nor HSDPA services from Cellc , but there are other broadband offerings in the near future.

How can you be so sure there will "Never" be a 3G or HSDPA offering from cellc!!!.

I have personaly picked up a 3G signal from cell c before, in midrand while doing a manual network search, could not logon, but it was there.

Just bought myself a Cell C data card. GPRS/EDGE/UMTS/HSDPA. R1833.69 on pre-paid, wacked a virgin sim in it and now i'm one happy camper. Surfing at resonable speed's for 50c/mb

Oh. Do you have to set any init strings (AT+CGDCONT etc.....) for Virgin Mobile.\
What is the speed like....

No additional settings, just make sure you are using the "vdata"APN and you will be away.

Cant give a accurate comment on speeds cause i'm in a bad reception area at the moment, keeps swaping between gprs and edge.

CellC Card -Network Locked??

Hi there caspa.

Next question. Is it network locked.

I know I had a Vodacom Huwei e620. Was told it was not locked but could not get it to work with VM SIMM. It would not register with the VM SIMM. Is the CellC one a Huwei too?

What is the dashboard software like. I have a GPRS/EDGE CellC modem and the good thing is the ability to add prepaid airtime without putting it back in a cellphone (you have to do this with the vodacom HSDPA when using prepaid).

Is the Data card dashboard software the same as for the USB modem?

Nope not locked as per my previouse posts i'm using a virgin sim at the moment.

Dashboard is pretty simple, very nice.

check out the braodband section of the cellc website, gives you all the info on the card and dashboard.

Did you try it with an MTN sim to confirm it wasn't just a VM problem? You probably needed a 128k VM sim.
