Cell C network issues solved (3 August 2011)

One post on Twitter mentioned that it was fiber feed at a data center.

Will wait and see what the official verdict is.

Cell C officially confirmed it was indeed a Fibre Break. Mention @CellC and ask them if it was a fibre a break and they will tell you the truth. Happen early hours of this morning as a datacentre also had experienced issues early hours of the morning.

Would that be the one used by Hetzner?

Not sure to be honest couldn't access mybroadband / mygaming last night - possibly a peering issue of some sort and cell c was bombing out on me like there was no tomorrow (no throughput) happen after midnight

Like it doesn't suck enough living in pretoria, not having a cell signal for most of the morning didn't put a smile on my face...

Not solved in Western Cape

I don't know who said the issue is resolved but I am still not getting 3G signal!

Sigh

When Vodacom went down, the forum was flooded by angry complaints.

Not so with CellC.

Just an observation.

Wierd Caching!!

Hi everyone,

Do you think that this break and subsequent fix could result in a some caching problems with Cell C?

I have a site, www.malherbehorn.co.za. This site has been showing the old IIS default page on Cell C data. On my Vodacom and Virgin Mobile data, I get the new page (not even on IIS anymore, its hosted on LAMP now)...

Apparently this is also showing the cached version on at least one ADSL line, but that could be a coincidence / local router caching??

The Cell C caching has been checked at 2 locations, separate PCs, separate cell c accounts, etc.

By the way, this domain was only update to the new name servers yesterday, but I would not expect the propogation to take this long, plus, as I mentioned on VM and VC it does work....

Thanks,

John
