Cell C network problems cause customer backlash

Also experiencing problems since about August last year. Actually had technicians visit my office to check the signal. Phone signal is fine, but data service just disappears. Problem went away, but recurring the last week or two.

I have a giga 200 sim. The first few weeks i was getting blazing speeds. The last 2 weeks have been shocking. Excellent signal strength, full H+ but no internet connection. Edge comes to my rescue. I'm currently on my 2nd reference number & still awaiting feedback. I live in Phoenix, North of Durban. I never experienced any network issues when i was with Vodacom. Whats going on Cell C.

Sorry to hear that, you poor suckers! Have been using Cell C for more than 19 months now with very little issues, Downloads mostly between 3.5 -4.8 Mbps. DL around 1.7. And customer care line helped me mostly well. Their technical helpdesk is 084 1555555, free from a Cell C SIM. And their Giga 200 is excellent value for money, only R150 PM total costs. I have no plans at all to switch to ADSL.
I guess everything depends on your location.

I have no beef with CellC, but that is an unfair comparison to make. You are probably one of 4 broadband users in the whole of the freestate

:D

Great signal, GREAT rates, Call Centre no more or less useless than MTN, VC, Hellkom...

Same here. The last 2 weeks have been absolutely painful on Cell C, in spite of getting a really strong H+ signal (>60%). Throughput is basically non-existent except for sporadic bursts. I've had to fallback to Neotel which ain't the fastest but at least it's stable. I've even gone mobile around the area - Bothasig & Tableview - and it's useless everywhere.

avoid call centres at all cost. they employ idiots. They can fix basic problems. to date i thing 8ta is the best. sorted my problems out with a tech guy comming out the next day. spend 2 hours sorting it out with a smile.

whahahaha, I saw this coming 2 years ago when everyone was raving about Cell C's 4gs.... It will happen to 8ta as well.

Stick to a mature network if you want more reliable throughput....

I chose Cell C Prepaid for my Tablet because they have the best data prices. Now I can not even use it as there is no way I can convert airtime to data on the Tablet (A lot of Tablets do not have USSD support to dial *147#). I am still waiting for Cell C for a solution.

How is a missing feature in your choice of tablet CellC's problem?

Quite happy with my data setup at home.

It's the voice service that drives me crazy. And as for calling in about the problems? No, life's too short to waste time like that.

It depends where you are. I use both 8ta and Cell in the Southern Suburbs - area ranges from Plumstead, Grassy Park, Meadowridge, Maitland, Observatory, Rosebank. Most areas Cell C is better than 8ta, which sometimes will only give me Edge for long periods of time, or keeps dropping down to Edge.

But I'm happy with both Cell C and 8ta where I mostly roam and where I stay.

I have 2 reference numbers, PM's from Cell C that the network team is busy looking into it. But what do I realistically think they can do for me? Jack all! Would prefer a refund and will go get 8ta which was far more stable.

Honestly have no problem with cellc data or call quality. It's about the same as everyone else but much cheaper. Call center is truly from hell though.

Year before I had a huge problem with them as I ported my number onto their data sim. At the time it was the R999 2 gig per month.

They lost my number at the store and was super rude on the phone.

This time. I want to be put on their 99c for real and was told that a sim swap will solve it ..... yeah right!!!! did sim swap and then was told I will still not be able to do it. if I didn't need the new micro sim for my galaxy s3 I would have literally burnt down their offices in sandton.

still stuck on a so called data sim.

word of advice for data center. if you don't know what you're talking about. shut up.

My problems started about two weeks ago. I have full 3G/HSDPA+ signal but connections just time out. I thought it was just my phone going wonky but two other guys in the office here said they also had data problems.

I'll admit it is super irritating. .. the data connection is erratic lately notwithstanding the full H+ signal indicated on my phone. You'll simply wanna google something right quick but no sir going nowhere... you are forced to do something in the mean time, 20 minutes later you're back online. Mind you whatsapp is still operational not so sure about up/ download of media. Where I stay in Pta it's either fully functional Edge (MTN) or partially functioning HSPA+ (Cell C)

I am on the internet probably 9 hours a day and use exclusively 3G/HSDPA. In the last 2 or 3 years I have used Vodacom, 8ta and Cell C and I have never experienced such catastrophicly slow internet as I have been suffering through using Cell C's MyGig 200.

I was so impressed with how Cell C had improved over the last 2 years but now it's all going to cr@p. I've had the same problems with service on my phone contract lately as well.

major call quality problems, plenty dropped calls ,and problem is only getting worse in and around Cape Town , i experienced similar problems in JHB recently

'i have had it with these goddamn snakes on this god damn plane' ...
That's how I feel about Cell C right now :(

I've been a customer for a few yearsss now, and I enjoy their lower prices (on voice and data) but ***** me... their poor signal seems to follow me wherever i go. I look like a damn idiot walking around in some places (be it at work, home, malls etc) trying to find a signal so i can make or receive a call.

I'm probably porting to the vodacom soon :( (from the pot into the fire ??)

Same problem here with giga 200. I live in Durban. The last 2 weeks their network has been pathetic. Painfully slow. I'm getting download speeds from 0.02mbps to 0.05mpbs on Speedtest.Net. What a Shocker.
Unacceptable.

Well with all the other service providers you can convert Airtime to Data bundles via the web. Cell C is the only one that does not allow you to do this.
