Cell C network promises: have they lied?

My deadspots so far are in Morningside at the in-laws and work parking (4 floors below ground).

Cell signals doesn't penetrate easily below ground...

...on one of our sites, when going below ground, you get no voda or mtn signal, but good cellc :D

Errr... read the first sentence again.... Your sentences are contradicting each other :p

Crap, I meant to say:
In contrast - CellC has improved my coverage over MTN by 100% - it's the first time in 3 years since I am able to make a phone call from my lounge without having to go into the garden or onto the balcony. Neither MTN nor Vodacom is capable of doing this (despite complaints).

I am just surprised how easy MTN/VC are getting away with their current price policies and slow progression. Both VC/MTN think they are untouchable - please CxO's of those companies, read "How the mighty fall" - you will be next

I don't know how they count but I have been asking them to fill in the gap between George and Knysna and nothing has happened, so maybe I'm in the 2%?

I never expected signal down there, although I could occasionally pick up Voda and Virgin Mobile down there :wtf:

Cell C head-office is in Morningside. Walk in there and demand assistence. :o

Okay. I didn't know that. Now how about that for irony! :D

I live in Northriding and have poor signal, my work is in Kyalami and I have poor signal. I will have four bars with my phone saying 3G and my family members won't be able to hear me when they call.

My BB Z10 loses connection to the BB service which means my emails and IMs get delayed. THought it was an issue with the phone till I spoke a friend today who said on Vodacom he has no such issues. In and around JHB I get 3G yet down in CT I get HSDPA speeds and no issues. Very disappointed with CellC but I wont move to the other companies.

My Cell C is running smoothly, although if I had an LTE device I'll be well pissed off at them

Staff writer should not be publishing under the pseudonym but should be using their real name. Get a dictionary as well. CellC FAILED to meet their targets, 'lie' is completely the wrong word and is used dishonestly by Staff writer. Unless you want to say that they had no intention of covering 98% of the country - the article points to possible failure though and not lack of intent.

I don't take much note of advertisements put out by any companies agencies, rather official press releases are a better statement of intent. All in all I have recently noticed a number of incendiary articles on this website against Cellc. Personal disclaimer - 2 MTN contracts (voice + data), 1 MTN prepaid (voice), 1 Vodacom prepaid in drawer, 1 8ta 10GB data SIM, and 1 CellC prepaid data at 15c/MB.

There are numerous threads on MYBB about Cell C failures documented on a daily basis - and no response from Cell C whatsoever - what do you expect, accolades ?

I am in Brackendowns, Alberton cell c signal is one bar most of the time so I just leave it roaming on Vodacom and pay cell c prices. I only get edge by doing this but I am on ADSL when at home anyway and 3G or better kills my battery. I think there support is poor as well. I have a reference number for the problem but nobody has ever called me.

Agreed - feels like media hype to me as well. While everyone uses the same technology I look at CellC as the underdog, who has been progressive over the last 12 months and has introduced very aggressive (and realistic pricing). I compare CellC with Afrihost - if it is not for companies like those we would not enjoy cheap and fairly consistent service. I think the next article should be "Why MTN / VC would do jack about price drops" - they will continue milking the consumers until churn is so high that they need to revisit their offering. At the moment MTN/VC are just dressing up the same old packages at the same ridiculous prices.

Similar to Afrihost, CellC will experience growing pains, difficulties in support and technology, but if they apply the same level of focus, they should come out winning.

No problem with Cell C here in Cape Town. Good voice, good data speed. Just wish they'd hurry up and extend their LTE coverage - I'm very keen to try it.

My experience is different in Cape Town. I find them useless with regards to call quality.

I was at CellC for a full 4 months. during that time, I had one dropped call after another! A fews back, driving in Little Falls, trying to sort out my house alarm, had to phone 4 times because 20 seconds into the call it was dropped. Their signal is the worst and Im glad to be back at MTN, where at least not 90% of my call are dropped!
And PS, most of the time the CellC changed over to Vodacom, but I think that Vodacom puts CellC call on the back burner and thats why the calls where dropped so often.

Have a Cell C sim in an iPad. At the office, full strength signal and very good response on all network activity. At home, 1 km away as the crow flies, a consistent signal strength of about 3 bars. But no connectivity. Time-outs and break-ups. Wasn't that bad last year, but very definitely a problem now.

Got a Note II and wanted to port number from Vodacom to Cell C to get the data bundle from Cell C. But the 1Gig special from Vodacom came at the right time. Same price as Cell C's 1 Gig but seemingly with less hassle. And no need to sukkel with porting the number. (All prepaid, no way I am falling for the contract scams.)

Just an observation....the past 3 months everyone was singing Cell C's praises. Today it seems majority of the comments are negative towards Cell C

Update - Got a call from Cell C
They finally acknowledged that the problem is country wide and the Tech said that they only received stock of parts for the tower upgrades on Friday.

Highly congested areas are getting 1st preference
