Cell C pulls "MTN is greedy and corrupt" ad

The best way for Cell C to respond is to use the asymmetry they fought for (and got) and drop their prices as they said they would.

Why are they not doing it?

I disagree
The best thing they could do is to invest in network infrastructure - that way if they go belly up somebody else can buy it up ;)

But I think we both know that they are putting the current asymmetry benefits towards there debts, and the time period on the asymmetry is not the full length yet.

MTN's customer support is much better than Cell C. Pay a little bit more and get better quality and support. I've been struggling for 2 months now. Cell C double billed me and the answer: "We escalated your problem. We will get back to you." I's been 2 months and nothing has been resolved.

^ This.

Feels like this is where Cell C's customer service is going. Is Cell C more interested in fighting causes than giving quality service to the many that took a chance to try their network and service? Well this is my recent experience.

The biggest mistake I made was to port a number to them on April 1[SUP]st[/SUP] -- the rest has been an extremely painful experience :(

Thanks not what they told everyone in their ads and the court though? They explicitly said, if they get asymmetry, they're dropping to 79c.

The 6 month time period is irrelevant; they could drop for 6 months under a promo and the market would love them for it. Why are they not doing it?

if you've got links to the marketing material I'd gladly take them on on the subject but my recollection - and certainly the articles I read from MyBB the argument was that they would have made greater drops if asymmetry was on an extended period and that because of the litigation (and loss of long lead).

Also if we are going to hold CellC for their bluster on CTRs we have to hold MTN accountable as well and that wont be very nice now will it ;)

[for anybody not picking up on it - Vodacom by far took the best case to court. My disagreement with Vodacom's approach is that in the greater scheme of things CellC receiving a "subsidy" is the least of Vodacom's medium and long term concerns and rather than taking a lead in getting certainty and a well laid path that would include massive infrastructure investment from all of the operators Vodacom aligned itself to the sort of litigation which Telkom held the market back with for so many years. MTNs comments on the subject, faulty papers and so on were positively bad]

That was over 12 years ago. The reality Cell C network sucked took them 5+ years to get 3G. Customer service and network coverage was never there strong point. MTR was never the reality, Cell C lost the way, went on this re branding exercise to get clients, dropped there price and still never worked, now they desperate try to playing victim.

Yes their network sucked when 3g came along and that's why I personally jumped ship to MTN at the time where I stayed for almost 12 years. The reality from a business perspective at the time they had much less billions to throw into the network since they were not making a killing on the artificially inflated MTR's that Vodacom and MTN implemented specially for this purpose of keeping Cell C pricing in check and preventing them from rapidly gaining market share.

So yes Vodacom and MTN one upped Cell C and the regulator failed to protect Cell C and other new entrants like Telkom mobile until recently.Yes the regulator let us consumers down by letting the big boys dictate the market until now.

Trying to lay the blame on Cell C would mean that you are in agreement that nothing should be done about multi choice and they should be free to continue screwing over top tv and other upstarts by buying out all the prime rights since they already have the cash piles to do so.Monopolies and duopolies are almost impossible to break without regulatory intervention.

Take a look at how Telkom mobile is battling to grab market share in SA and you will quickly realise that Cell C has actually done well to hold on this long in such a Mafia type market that's dictated by the big two.
